Pro Vs Basic

I couldn't find an e-mail address to LimeWire so I am hoping that someone can answer my questions in this forum.

I am currently using Basic 4.9.37

I have 10,000's of audio files I share and sometimes have a hundred or more audio files waiting to be down loaded.

1. When I have a number of files being search &/or downloaded I find that the program is rather unstable and "locks" up quite frequently. Would this improve with the Pro version?

2. I find that it takes a long time to select files to be downloaded. Would this improve with the Pro version?

3. I notice that the Pro version provides "6 months of free updates", does that mean that after 6 months one has to repurchase the program to acquire new improvements after 6 months?

4. Does the Pro version still rely on the good people sharing be on line to download?

5. Will all my options and "await downlaods" be carried over to the Pro version?

I am a Pro user, have been since May last year, and hopefully I will try to answer your questions as truthfully as possible.

You asked:

This instability you are experiencing is to do with Java, not LW itself. Whenever you have, say, over 1,000 items to share Java basically crashes and LW stops working, the way to get around this is to cut down on the number of items you share. I recently shared between 1,500 and 1,700 items, this caused the same problem you had, I cut the number of shares down to 10%, the problem then went away.

This is a subjective question and it really depends on what you are looking for and how many other P2P users are online sharing the files that you want. However, you should get better search results if you move up to Pro, you should note that this is not guaranteed.

Basically yes, but at a reduced price. Your (and my) contributions help to keep LW Pro improvements, upgrades and updates, ongoing.

Yes, LW Pro is still P2P software, apart from some enhancements and improvements (which you can check on the website), LW Pro is the same as LW Basic.

5. Will all my options and "await downlaods" be carried over to the Pro version?
Again, the answer to this question is, yes. Remember, if you are downloading “file A” from a another P2P user with LW Basic you would still be downloading “file A” from the same user if you had LW Pro, it is just that Pro may find more users with “file A” than Basic could.

In all honesty, you should satisfy yourself that the features present in Pro, which are not in Basic, makes it worthwhile to purchase. For myself, I am more than satisfied with the results I get from Pro to believe I have made the right decision to purchase this Pro software and to renew my purchase/contribution every six months.

Please note, that my post is my own personal opinion and other members of this forum may feel differently about some subjective points.

after more than 3 years of supporting Pro, I agree with Bob.

Most users won't notice the difference, but Pro searches a bit further, downloads from a few more (especially as a leaf), but really is about supporting development of an opensource project that is freely shared with anyone.

Nice summary Bob.

turn off itunes sharing if your program locks up, this feature cant handle more than few hundred download and turning it off will free up java memory

I agree with ukbobboy01 & stief

I am a pro user and will continue to be I repurchase every 6 months. It is more of a gesture of support rather than performance although Pro is well worth the $18.88 with the Internet service I have it is noticeably faster than basic and the search results are slightly better. I have a pretty fast connection capable of 900Kb/s DL and Pro has hit that a few times haven't managed to do it with basic yet but can consistently hit 700Kb/s with basic.

Keep in mind that Pro users are always biased and usually rush to gush about about buying it. ;)

The free one works just fine but if you want pro remember to go to the official site to get it:

www.limewire.com

any other site is a scam.
