You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link. You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there.

Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary.

Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire.

Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire.

hi

ty so much 4 ur replay

umm i did what u said but the msg still appear.

Also i forgot to tell u, when i open limewire a msg box call "Internal Error" appear first than the " Fatal Error" box appear.

When i open limewire and search for some file, the result show but when i try to download the file a msg box come up and than i click Yes but it doesn't download.

Alch3mist December 17th, 2005 11:41 PM

umm about the java software, which one do i uninstall, is it the J2SE runtime environment or the Java Media Framework.

I picked the J2Se one, i hope thats the right one.

Grandpa December 17th, 2005 11:47 PM

uninstall both

Alch3mist December 17th, 2005 11:49 PM

i did

Alch3mist December 17th, 2005 11:50 PM

i am sorry i mean ok i'll do it now

Alch3mist December 17th, 2005 11:54 PM

when i uninstall Java Media Framework, it says "unable to locate the installation log file C;\Program files\JMF... Uninstallation will not continue"

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 12:39 AM

My advice: uninstall everything, including Limewire. You shouldnt have to reinstall Java once you have installed Limewire as Limewire automatically installs the java for you and if I were you I'd run a check for any viruses. This might take sometime but it sounds like you pickedup something during your install or you clicked on something to download and it may have given you a virus and or trojan.

Do a complete uninstall, delete any leftover LW folders and or java, scan/defrag your system and run a virus check before you do a fresh, clean install of Limewire.

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 12:47 AM

how can i uninstall Java media Framework?

i doesn't let me when i do it in add or remove.

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 12:51 AM

It wont let you add/remove? You need to clearup your system. Try unistalling Limewire and see if that helps then defrag your computer.

http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/sy...nstallers.html

the above link has trusted freeware you might need the 'my uninstaller' first one at the top of the list to help you remove stubborn installs.

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 12:56 AM

no it won't let me..
sigh*
i can't remove it coz it says
" Unable to locate the installation log file C:\program files\JMF2.1.1e\Uninst.isu/. Uninstallation will not continue."

Let me try ur advice.

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 01:02 AM

Sounds like what happened was you lost the install log that programs usually come with during the install/reinstall or whatever you did. The only other way might be for you to reinstall it to get the log file back but try the 'my uninstaller' first, might save you some grief. It helps remove stubborn installs from your Windows add/remove. But, I still suggest you defrag your computer after. And run a virus check, just in case. Please let me know how you do?

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 01:30 AM

well i reinstalled Java Media framework and still the when i open LW the same thing happen so now i am going to Defrag my computer and i'll let u now.

ty

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 01:37 AM

i finished defragmenting my computer, but still when i open lw the msg still occur.

Now when open mIRC i can't seem to connect to a server.
This is so troublesome.Sigh

Have u got anymore suggestions??

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 01:56 AM

Did you run a AV scan yet?

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 02:00 AM

umm whats an AV scan?
where can i get this program?

sorry iam not so good with computers

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 02:04 AM

http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/security/fwvirus.html

Here's the link same site, that has some free AVs that work really well. I use the AntiVir, thrid one down from the list.

AV stands for Anti Virus. You should always use an AV when you download as it will detect any viruses/worms/trojans that will harm your computer & it will get rid of them for you automatically after you scan your system.

They usually run in your system tray in Windows. Always keep it running. The AV that is.

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 02:29 AM

and if that doesnt help then Im fresh out of ideas. As I now have to log off the computer for the rest of the day. Im sure when the rest of the forum wakes up others will jump in with advice.

good luck. let us know how you do? ;)

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 02:35 AM

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 03:25 AM

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 01:36 PM

What does a system restore do?
will i lose anyfiles?

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 02:36 PM

how can i send a msg to limewire?
whats the email address?

Grandpa December 18th, 2005 04:50 PM

You are going to need to do a couple of things. First you need to get rid of all the Java programs you have.

Quote:

when i uninstall Java Media Framework, it says "unable to locate the installation log file C;\Program files\JMF... Uninstallation will not continue"
There is obviously a problem with JMF you must have installed this at an earlier date it does not come with LimeWire. You will probably have to manually remove it by going to Start/C:/Program Files/Java and delete the java folder. Then uninstall LimeWire with that done follow the instructions below.

You will need to go to Start/Run type regedit into the box this will open the registry editor

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it.

Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it

Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor now go back to the original instructions and manually install Java then LimeWire.

Be careful when you are in the registry do not delete anything other than I listed above you can mess up your machine if you accidentally uninstall something or change your registry settings.

If you are a Pro user you can contact limewire at the link below.

Alch3mist December 18th, 2005 05:31 PM

ok ty Grandpa for ur suggestion.

if iam not a PRO user than is there i way to msg to Limewire.

Sphinx December 18th, 2005 07:57 PM

Alch3mist

are you honestly able to follow any of our suggestions? Didnt anything help? Im still not understanding this after this entire thread you are still unable to run Limewire?

so, I giveup, you have the wrong Java installed. what you needed was Java sun that goes with Limewire and is included with Limewire during the install.

Limewire is not that difficult to install. If I can do it anybody can. and contact Limewire the company wont help you. did you restore your system? if so, then, that should help you clearup any old installs.

welp, good luck. :)

cheers.

Alch3mist December 19th, 2005 04:58 PM

Sphinx December 19th, 2005 08:25 PM

Alch3mist

You turned off restore??? I strongly suggest you turn it on and restore your system to an earlier point if possible or, have you had it completely turned off???

Post you specs please like Grandpa suggested then he'll be able to direct you, outside of giving your entire computer a reformat not sure how else I can help you and I hope you got an Anti Virus program from the site I suggested?

You sound like you are installing/reinstalling over old prefs. and settings.

Completely remove Limewire & whatever Java you installed.

Or, if you can get a system restore point from the time you activated your computer you could restore instead of keeping installing/reinstalling.

Is Limewire removed from your system???

You need to start fresh if its still not opening then you may have spyware and or a trojan in your system.

Or, follow Grandpa's suggestions as he posts them. ;)

Alch3mist December 21st, 2005 08:53 PM
