I cant watch my downloaded avi's
 

Can anyone help ? I have downloaded some clips onto my laptop but when I try to play them in windows media all I get is sh1tty patterns in my screen !!

Do I need to view them somewhere other than win media ?

Try VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) as it has in-built codecs & is generally very reliable. See what it can play here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

Now howbout burning them ? Will I not have trouble burning from win media if I cant view them on it ?

Most likely yes, in that case you need extra codecs. See CODECs list and alternate players for Movies

However, I'd recommend using either Nero 6 or 7 or Roxio. It's just so easy using those programs to do the job. Especially the newest versions of each. ;)
