When I download movie files that are shown by a "little green tree" I belive that is a kodax software I can't play the dam movies. I did download Kodak and quicktime software. It seems I can only view files that are in the windows media player. Any thoughs. Thanks

I get a lot of problems with video files too. Mostly for me, I can hear the sound but the picture is either solid green or occasionally, if I'm lucky, it flickers from the movie to the green screen every split second.

In limewire the little icons before the files shows the default player you have set for that type of file. You probably need to download the right codecs to play the video file.

VLC media player is a good one that has the codecs built in and will play most file types.

A good thread with more info is CODECs list and alternate players for Movies.

Just download the XP codec pack and you will be able to play all files in Windows Media Player. This is what I use on mine without having to download a 3rd party media player. ;)

Codec Packs

Dear Sphinx

I have been thinking about installing the XP codec pack for some time but the fact that I have WMP 10, to your WMP9, and the pack is almost 6MB in size has me slightly worried.

Can you say if you have had any problems with this particular codec pack? WMP 10 has a tendancy to crash if it can't work with a codec finds.

Finally, have you, or anybody else, heard of or used a small codec pack called "Morgan Stream Switcher", which has been recommended by a website or two for XP.

I am trying to gauge whether it is possible to use only one or two media players rather than the five or six (not counting the one in LW) I now have. As you can imagine, it is a royal pain going from one player to the other trying to play a film clip.

As always, any info will be gratefully received.

UK Bob
