Grandpa December 29th, 2005 06:30 PM

Are you using the offline installer or the online you need to use the offline installer.

mykul December 29th, 2005 09:17 PM

yea.. im using the offline installer.. ? ..

Lord of the Rings December 29th, 2005 09:29 PM

Uninstall LW & Java. Then only do both steps #1 & 2 here Fixes for Limewire & then reinstall LW using the "Offline" installer version.

The new LW 4.10.x now stores its preferences in a new location. So as well as the above technique, you should do the following: delete C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\LimeWire
Note instead of searching .limewire, you'll need to search for limewire with search options set to show hidden files b/c the Application Data folder is a hidden folder. FrostWire uses the same technique so you can follow this example: How to delete your FrostWire Preferences folder except search limewire & not frostwire.

um

okay..another problem..ive download the offline java windows installer .. i open the installer .. gets to "cofiguring windows installer " and this error pops up

:"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package:"

thats the error.. and im administrator on this machine..and it exists ? its in the folder??? .. valid windows installer package ? wells i downloaded it off the site.. via offline mode..was 16MB and i donwloaded the windows version .. so i cant possibly think wats wrong..HELP!?!..

Lord of the Rings December 30th, 2005 06:59 AM

Can you give us an error number. I believe I've seen that error before affecting someone else. I researched it earlier in the year & there is an answer for it (I think!) At least there's documentation for that problem. I won't know where to find it though without an error number.

mykul December 31st, 2005 05:18 PM

error number.. what is that, im not to sure, because i dont see an error number wen it pops up .. =\ .. help to find what number it is?

roast December 31st, 2005 06:38 PM

This error:

:"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package:"

Were you downloading the file with a download manager, like DAP, or were you using firefox? These programs seem to have problems downloading some files. IF this is what you are doing, you should just download the file using plain old IE.

mykul January 1st, 2006 06:13 PM

oh yea.. i was downloading with flash get.. hms.. lets see if using normal ie works

Grandpa January 2nd, 2006 12:39 AM

I just went back and read you previous post are you sure you have gotten rid of the Virus you had before. I would recommend you go to the link below and have Norbie check your computer.

mykul January 3rd, 2006 03:31 PM

i have the win32.parite virus.. okay ?.. and .. i used Panda Software Online Active Virus scanner to disinfect it.. tho.. it dosent seem to remove the virus core/origin .. it just disinfects the files its infected.. and so. . causes some of my programs to disfunction (the exe. are unable to be double clicked) // and such games like steam stuff up.. after updating .. steam dosent open.. error comes up .. so i used pqremove .. and that seemed to remove the virus ..( i used the process of turning off system restore.. then scanning with pqremove .. then restarting comp.. then everything works fine ) ... but i stil get that virus blah blah error wen unistalling / installing some apps ... so i later .. i used panda again .. and it stuffed my programs again .. and the win32.parite came back .. seems like panda wakens the virus again.. so i have to use pqremove.. AGAIN .. so yea... im pretty sure the virus inst gone..cuz it keeps coming back.. -___- ..but it says it gone. so im not sure ..

mykul January 3rd, 2006 03:33 PM

btw.. im waiting on norbies forum to send me the activation detials for my account..once thats done .. ill be using the thing u referred to me .. cheers

In the end I realised I had posted showing my personal name so I asked him to either edit it out or delete the thread. He chose to delete the thread. norbie January 4th, 2006 11:48 PM

Harsh comments LOTR - Nothing I "delete" is ever deleted, only moved to a private forum in case it is ever needed again - You did ask me to remove it from the public view.

And I said I didn't have enough hands-on experience with the Mac environment, nor running Windows virtually to be able to help you - sorry :(

My main area is Windows Support, and virus removal.

Mykul - I am sorry you did not receive an activation link within the 24 hours - please register again with the username Mykul and I shall activate it for you. I can see some pretty nasty malware in your Hijackthis log, but we'll soon get it all sorted :)

mykul January 5th, 2006 01:30 AM
