"TheMusicMembersArea" Limewire rip-off

Today I tried ordering a download of Limewire pro through a Limewire link I found on Google, and somehow was directed to a secure site I was led to believe was Limewire's. I wanted to get the high speed downloads and DVD software; and after paying a little over $50, found that I had just bought access to a site called TheMusicMembersArea.com. I logged in and was taken to Download.com for a copy of Limewire basic. I downloaded it, and was unable to upgrade to Pro; Limewire did not recongnize the email address when I was prompted to enter it. I received a confirmation email from the other site, and accessed it; there was no way to query the transaction, only free windows software available for download; no reply function of the email; no recourse at all except to try to have VISA refuse or reverse the charge to that vendor.

If anyone from Limewire is reading this, you should be aware that this other "company" is using your trusted name to steal from people.

I would not have bought this if I didn't think I was dealing with Limewire.

Membership? - *WARNING* - Download p2p Clients ONLY Thru Official Sites (click on link)

Known Scam Sites (click on link) See the complain link at the very top of the page.

get your $$$ BACK!!! (music members)

I would suggest to cancel the transaction thru your C/C asap.

Unfortunately there are scam sites out there. And they pay google to be a sponsored search result when people search for LW. This also happens with other p2p programs & other softwares also.

"Scam" sites

Maybe going after Google is an option... I don't know yet if I'll be successful in having the credit card company cancel the transaction.

I also think it's time that people using the internet stop referring to these kinds of activities as "scams" or "spoofs" or "phishing" and start calling it what it actually is - attempts to defraud, fraud, attempted robbery, and theft, and really start bitching about it to the authorities.

Maybe then our lawmakers will come down hard on this trash.

Now I'll be very reluctant to buy over the internet - and I shouldn't have to worry, if it wasn't for the thieves.

I got caught the same way but paid through PAYPAL and got a refund.

I did revisit the site I used and when you read it carefully they are offering "access" to files & software. They do not actually say it's from them.

What they are charging for is the Technical support they offer.

They do actually deliver what they promise so I am not sure they can be stopped.

I am much more careful now in my interpretation of what sites are offering.

Sorry you got caught out and hope you get a refund.

Thanks for the kind words...

In my case, the site actually did advertise Limewire pro, which it did not deliver, and did advertise Mac OSX copatibility, which was false for any of its "premium" software offered.

Also, there was no means of contacting anyone to answer any questions that were not covered in their FAQs. For future consideration, I wonder how you could make sure that feature was available before paying?

Sorry to hear that, at least I was able to put mine down to a "learning experience". I would use the sticky Lord of the Rings posted for you and complain.

Perhaps if there are a lot of complaints things will improve.

Enjoy Limewire anyway
