Wondering about limewire...

I'd really love to know which compiler/IDE is used to compile LimeWire.

I looked at limewire.org pretty thoroughly, I still can't find anything...

Certainly none of the compilers I ever used. lol :D
I think I saw it mentioned on the forums somewhere but unfortunately the forum search function is non functional at the moment. so ... :( :o

Why did you want to know anyway?
I thought I saw it mentioned more than one could be used.

Compiler: javac with Ant and sometimes GCC.

IDE: Eclipse, NetBeans, Emacs, Xcode, UltraEdit, you name it.

Ok, now that that's cleared up... When I download the LimeWire Installer, how come it's an exe? To my understanding Java apps can only be exes if they are compiled to native code with something like GCJ. GCJ completely defeats the portability aspect of Java. :/ Is it actually an executable .jar or something, how exactly does the installer work?

Installer? I think you mean rather that little exe file you're using to launch LimeWire!? It's just a customized version of SUN's javaw(.exe) and its only purpose is to start the JVM and pass the LimeWire specific parameters to it.
