The Hosts are Coming January 27th, 2006 06:15 PM

My First Question...

I've been using LimeWire since last October and I've seen nothing wrong with it (except the spam results I've been fighting to keep out of my searches, especially the annoying 134.4 mp3 file). But there are a few questions I've been wanting to ask the developers, like this one:

How do file hosts propagate?

I alreday know that the more sources a file has on it, the better (and faster) the download. But the point of that post is: how does the number of hosts grow for an individual file?

And also, why do some files that I desperately want have only one source, while others already have so many?

I'd like to get an answer, and (if any one of you can) post me useful threads on the subject. Thanks!

Hi ... I'm not sure you need a developer to answer :)

If you download a file showing 20 hosts and you share the file, then the file will show 21 hosts to other users (your copy will not show up on your machine) (in theory)

At different times different hosts will be on line and you will only see the files for the online hosts (more or less:)) So your search may only show up one sourse for a file , 10 minutes later, or after restarting Limewire you may get a diffrent number. It depends on your connections, ... you cannot see all the files on the entire network, ....on who is on line etc

In short you can only see what is currently available and this can vary from minute to minute and connection to connection. I hope this helps:)
