Waaaaay weird! Downloaded not in shared folder! Hi Guys, I've just encountered something really weird and am wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them and, of course, what to do to fix it... When I left the house this morning I left Limewire running since it was busy downloading. Got home this evening to find the files no longer downloading and no longer in the download window. I thought yippee! Everything's finished! On to step 2. Conversion time. Go to shared folder but Lo and behold! The files are NOT there! Now, I've been using Limewire for several months now so I am not entirely new to this so I checked my setup options to see if something had changed there (I upgraded yesterday to 10.3.5 as I kept getting internal errors the past few days) but nope, still set to download to shared folder. Hmmm... OK... so I decided to run a search on my PC to see where my files could be. Found them in the incomplete folder . According to the size (357,040 kb) complete but name has been converted to something like this: T-366583808-****name****Season 2 Episode 5, etc. What's happening?? Are the files really complete? Can I use them? Help?? |
If they're still in the incomplete folder it means they were not transfered by LW to the downlds folder (AKA shared or Saved Files folder.) Either they had not completed downlding or else, they had come up in error & had not completed downlding or had not succeeded in being verified by LW compared to the original downld hash that was downlded at the time you initially selected the file to downld. Are these files still listed in the LW downld window? Check via arranging them by name or size, etc. If not, then they may have received the corruption notice or not verified properly. Can you use them? If it's a video, then possibly. Try to play it using a player like VLC. IF it plays, then you might only have missed out on the end credits or something. |
Hiya. Thanks for quick response! Just running a test now. Forgive me - what's VLC? My PC defaults to Windows Media Player but it won't play movies (never has) because of missing codec and I've never quite figured out which to download! lol The files are no longer in the download window but there wasn't any message window when I arrived home either (I allow messages) but LW was frozen (files were no longer in download window already then). If incomplete in the end, will I be able to relaunch the download or are they scrap? |
VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) has in-built codecs & is generally very reliable for playback & previewing for LW. See its features here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html The computer freezing might have resulted in the file not properly transfering to the downld folder. The act in itself might have resulted in the freeze. You might have received an error message but because you weren't present, you couldn't disable the error message whilst LW was at the beginning of the process. By error message I mean such as the file didn't verify properly. |
My knight in shiny cyber-space! Many thanks for the link. Have tried a few files and they are indeed incomplete. Strange though that they weren't still in download window (others still were). Hmmm... will try relaunch from incomplete... Fingers crossed! Thanks again! BTW: It was only LW that froze. Just in case that's of any importance. |
just an adjustment to my previous post in case it matters: I'm using LW 4.10.5 Pro (was obviously too shook up when first posted) :o |
