..Hobo: in the long run i can see w/out assistance. if i do movie covers en-mass it actually saves me time. (nero & record now) i don't have to wade thru all the crap movies. i like action-green. and i like the G movies-red.
p.s. i don't have to arrange the collection (colors), just the movie list. lol

you're right about songs from the proper album. with rhapsody, usually when you play the song it will tell you which album it came from (id tag) before editing info. even after editing, it still comes up with the original album. most are good enough to include the proper album info if it's there at all. if they don't i look elsewhere.:)

I use Alba Extractor 0.4-dev or albaextractor-0.1, in this order. With these i had no problems.

Another Hobo:
File Juicer sounds really exciting, but for the life of me I can't find a Windows version. Must be a Mac developer with principles :-). Any further suggestions?

Thanks for that. As a non-techie Alba Extractor 0.4-dev for Windows is too scary to install, but albaextractor-0.3 is getting me lovely results for my ALBW files

I'm not actuall sure if you read this thread ... but lotr suggests various extractors and , not being the PC type I haven't explored them fully:)

Yep, I saw those links, even tried some of them, but as a non-techie there is some pretty scary stuff there :).

Anyway, it looks like I am on my bicycle for the unwrapping and finding albums, so I am going to enjoy LM until the next road block :).

I found what I could with the albumwrap extractors. But there's also the Splitters such as Mp3Split & Mp3directcut which "might" do the job. Did you try those?

It's been at least 6 mths or much longer since I investigated those so there might be new ones or ones I didn't find in my searches. I originally wrote that post 12 mths ago.

BTW which ones did you find scary & why so? lol :D

I did try Mp3Split, but when I dropped an album file on it I didn't have a clue what the responses meant

Can't remember the exact products, but I tried 2 or 3 and I got installation instructions refering to a "make" routine (I am a simple WinXP end user). Others asked me questions, either at installation or when I dropped an album file on it, that I couldn;t understand.

Basically the way I work these days (because most software arrives like that) is that I hit an "install" file or button, it installs itself and works for the simple end user. The moment it reacts in ways I don't understand I move on.

But again, I am not looking any further. Alba Extractor solved my original problem. I'll take the next step when I run into the next road block.

Hi Lord of the Rings, me again, I making (very) slow progress :(, but progress none the less :)
One thing I have learned though is that the general concensus is that mp3split seems to be the best tool of them all (in the Windows environment that is).

I downloaded the GUI version and also SnackAmp, but for the life of me I can't find any place where it explains how to use this thingy, only the command line version.

Do you have any idea where I can find instructions how to use mp3splt GUI version with SanckAmp?

I have a suspicion the program has changed its name from mp3split to mp3splt as there's another program of the same name. For the 1st (which is open source), I found this http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3sp...ation/man.html which seems to be all there is. :rolleyes:

I believe the one you have is the 1st one.

* There are some cd burner programs such as Nero & Roxio which have similar programs packaged with their burner program. ie: they're also splitters, they detect silence between tracks. You can adjust the sensitivity. But a program that majors in doing it is probably going to be better rather than an extra utility included in a package.

On the mac I think Roxio Toast's Audio Extractor also has this ability. It's been so long since I used it.

At worst you could also use an audio editor to separate them, but that'd mean reconverting to mp3 in the end. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/windows.php can open mp3 & ogg & wav files & save into those formats, edit, apply effects, etc. And it's free open source program.
