Firewall or Loopback connection on local machine??? HELP! I was using limewire with no problem whatsoever. I formatted my PC and installed more or less the same softwares, Now once i click on the Limwire shortcut, after a few second, i get a message that says: Limewire can not connect to the internet, this may be due to a firewall program or loopback connection on the local system!!! The thing is, i have disabled all my firewalls, and i have internet connection! It's really frustrating i can't find the problem with limewire, as other P2P softwares are working... If u know the problem or know how to fix it, please let me know... Thanks for your help A |
1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.) If that doesn't work then see below. 2. Follow thru the steps here Connection problems? Check here first! |
Thanx for ur quick response Lord of the Rings... But, I have checked both of those... My problem is limewire is not opening at all, I just see the intro interface and then the message that says that somethine is blocking or something is wrong... And i am almost sure that i have tried everything... I need a solution for this exact message: "Limewire was unable to to initialize and start. This is usally due to a firewall program blocking limewire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local system. Please allow Limewire access to the internet and restart Limewire." HELP:( A |
In the other link I gave, 1st the idea is to ensure you're already properly set up. eg: make sure your firewall is configured to allow Limewire total access & is not being blocked. If you have 2 firewalls, then disable one. Make sure UPnP is enabled on your modem/router. If you are properly set up, then try uninstalling both Java & LW & reinstalling both using the "Offline" installers of each. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. |
OK Mr. Rings, Here is all my info hope u can help:) 1. Windows XP, service Pack 2 2. Windows firewall, Norton Antivirus (I have tried to disable both, and i have included limewire.exe in the exceptions for windows firewall) 3. Ram 512Mb 4. Available space above 10Gb 5. Connection DSL 6. Router- Speedport W 500V 7. Connecting from home 8. Limewire 10.5 (but i have tried older version, same problem) 9. ISP? I live in germany, T-Com is my provider i think 10. Not sharing the connection 11. I have used Limewire perfectly before and i had the same specifications. I recently formatted my PC and now i can't have it to work, although i don't have any different softwares... 12. "You test workeed" was already ok. Thanks a lot A |
Are you sure Norton is only an anti-virus? Is there no firewall also? Check the options. I can't find much in english about your modem/router. It's all in german when I googled it. :D I think your modem is the official one of T-Com. Does your modem have UPnP abilities? This was one of the few links in english which doesn't mean much. |
Newbie here piggy backing off of this post with the same problem. Installed the software but cannot get it to run with the same error message as Original Poster... My specs: Windows ME BSecure Internet Protection (easy to disable the FW) 512 not sure...but i'd imagine enough DSL Westell & a Dell 2300 Wireless Router home 4.10.5 LW & 1.5.0 Java Zoomtown Yes, just my laptop My first attempt hence the newbie title 8) Test works Thanks in advance :) |
I suspect your router is the problem. Log into it be typing this in your browser http://192.168.2.1 & check your options. See if you can find UPnP (Universal Plug & Play) anywhere in the settings. It might be in the advanced settings at a guess. If you can find it, enable it, save settings, reboot router if necessary, then reopen LW. If your router doesn't have UPnP abilities, then you'll probably need to manually port forward. The steps are 1. Set up a Static ip (very important), 2. Forward a port (LW uses port 6346 by default), instructions to step 1 & 2 here Port forward instructions for your modem (click on link) Don't forget to save settings & reboot device if necessary. Step 3 is within LW, follow these directions Manual port forward instructions & sample image ReOpen LW after you have done this. |
IT WORKED! ACTUALLY IT WORKED JUST NOW! I DELETED ALL MY JAVA FILES. AND TRIED INSTALLING LIMEWIRE... AND IT WORKED... IT'S COOL THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!:) A:) |
Excellent, thanks for letting us know you solved your problem. :) |
tried everything posted but still have same problem I have the same problem. LW was working fine on my laptop until few days ago and now I get that same message. I have done all the fixes posted and nothing has worked. I have uninstalled and reinstalled LW and still get same message. I am on laptop with Motorola wireless card. We have desktop with roadrunner broadband with LW on it and works great on that pc. What possibly could have caused this to happen all of a sudden? Like I said was working fine until few days ago. |
Is there anything that's changed on the computer? Have you installed any other programs or updates recently? Which version of Java do you have? What model of Motorolla device do you have? What have you tried so far? |
Have a look at this page, it will show where to find UPnP setting for motorolla http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm Yours might be a different model. |
How many days ago exactly did your LW stop running? Your LW preferences will be found in a new location after running LW 4.10 & having deleted them once. Try step 3 here : Point 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.) You might also want to update your Java. Uninstall your Java using the Add/Remove Programs Control panel. Then install Java 1.5 using the "Offline" installer version. See point #1 in above link. These firewall issues are normall either due to software firewall or modem/router firewall. So ... unless something else is playing up affecting communication between LW & devices & firewall, then the issue must be one of these 2 things. Something might have become corrupted along the way. It's hard to know. |
finally got it fixed After all the tries I finally got my LW to initialize by downloading the new JAVA. Thanks so much....Now I will get pro |
Thanks for letting us know. Yes I was concerned a little about the Java because the newer versions of LW are designed using Java 1.5, so unless there's a special reason to use 1.4.2, I'd recommend the latest Java. Glad to hear you solved the problem. :) ;) |
