Is LW better? Hello, I just had a couple of questions... A while ago I had limewire solely for downloading photoshop, and my computer got pretty messed up because of it. I have been wary of filesharing programs since then, but a few weeks ago I downloaded BearShare for music. I haven't gotten any viruses from it, so I'm happy, but it seems to have less content and to be slower over all. I have friends who use LW w/o incident, and I wonder if it really is better than BearShare. I regularly scan for viruses, something I didn't know to do before, and I take better care of my computer over all. So, I don't know if it makes any difference what I do or have, I'd just like to know before I do something stupid. Thanks! |

Good proggies to check that no spyware is being installed with LW... Spybot Search & Destroy Ad-Aware Free Antivirus prog, special features disabled after 30 days... Avast! |

Here is a hint, a lot of rubbish always shows with the same file size, IE dont bother downloading anything that shows a file size of 851.7k. There are other typical file sizes I cant remember off the top of my head, that is always rubbish. Also check your extensions, if it is 20k with an exe extension, it is pretty much a no brainer to leave that alone when you did an audio search. #1 your computer did not get messed up because of LimeWire it go messed up because of files you downloaded and opened. So far there are not any music files that I know of that contain viruses but there are allot of software files that contain viruses. The link below will help to educate you about viruses and P2P networks. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=41432 LimeWire contains no spyware or viruses if you get it from the official site the link below will take you there. If you are using BS depending on which version you are using it may or may not contain spyware. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml I prefer LimeWire myself but the content should be the same for both, they both are Guutella clients thus the same network same files available. But for me LimeWire is allot faster than BS but for others BS is faster. |
