Cant view dowloaded avi or mpeg

Why can't I view my downloaded avi or mpeg files with my windows media player. I keep on receiving this error, "file type not supported or codec error". I can't even preview the files while it is still downloading.

Hi there

I use the VLC player, it's free and has all the codes you need built in.

You can have a look at it here -

Hope this helps

There are a lot of choices.

Which one will I choose?

Click on the Traffic Cone at the top of the page then pick the download for your operating system.

If VLC can't play the file, then it's a sure sign there's something wrong with the file. VLC can play a lot more types of files than wmp can.

See these:

1. Movie download issues

2. How to use Bitzi Web Lookup ... to see if there's any user feedback on the particular video file.

Any of you if you can just do me a favor. Try downloading any file of the movie "g**et of f*re" then try to preview it before it is completed. If you can preview it then tell me the filename so that I could try it out. If I cannot preview it then there is something wrong with my system.

I'm just about to check it now. I just opened LW & am waiting for it to settle down. But in the meantime, double-click your search results for the same, so the largest is at the top. Now that file will most likely be the most reliable. Unless there's a part 1 & 2. And I noticed a part 1 & 2 in my search. But all above 550 MB (or (550,000 KB)

I must admist I had problems wth the 1st, but the smaller one was easier to preview. It's a part 1 of 2 of the same video!

I'm just about to try the same file that you tested.
