Default unwatchable movies

hi everyone.first post so hope everyone will be gentle with me.
the problem i have got is i have downloaded a film that i would like to burn to dvd for someone,it is watchable on pc but i can only burn it with windvd.(if i try to burn with nero or a freeware called video dvd maker it just closes that program.)
like i said i have burned it with windvd but when i put the disc in standalone dvd player it is extremely thin ie the picture is 6 inches thick and there is xs black lines top and bottom of screen.
so what i am asking is is there a program that will stretch the picture? or something and also why does it kick out of some programs when i try to burn with them? as it might stretch itself with another burning software.
hope it all makes sense to all you clever ones and thanks in advance for anyone tring to help.

Quit a few programs will do what you want, the one I like to use to trim the video whilst converting to a DVD is WinAVIVideoConverter.

Note to preserve the shape somewhat you need to trim the sides as well as the black bars off.

Generally I find either 10% off the top and bottom, and 5% off the sides for marginally letterboxed video is ok, with 20% off the top and bottom and 10% of the sides for badly leterboxed video works for me.

If you were using a mac I could help you.

Which version of Nero did you try to use? Nero 7 converts all that type of stuff.

What's more, if you have the newer dvd players which support divx/xvid/mpeg4, then you just burn it as a data disk & play it. The dvd player plays it full screen.

Have a look at the stickys in the Upld/Downld problems section for this type of topic. ... oh CODECs list and alternate players for Movies You'll find other options & also links to tools & a video forum for help!
