Status Line Connection Statistics

Folks,

The connection statistics in the status line at the bottom have been misleading and wrong for a very long time. Neither BearShare or LimeWire have been accurately communicating the ping/pong information required to make those statistics close to accurate. The statistics that you have seen there in the last 7 months have been random based on how much ping/pong information that you happen to get.

These messages were flooding the network and not doing their primary job of getting new users on the network so BearShare and LimeWire controlled the flow of this information to enable users to get more quickly connected into the network. The side effect was innaccurate statistics.

Your most accurate statistic for connectedness to the network is the amount of message traffic that you are seeing. This is hard to express in a user readable fashion though. LimeWire has just been working to ensure that the green status light is enough to tell you that you are well connected. This whole issue of connectedness will change again once we roll out supernodes.

Thanks

I notice in the new version(s) there is no longer a status line that tells you file count. I've heard this was inaccurate anyway, but it was still nice to see. Is there any way I can turn that on?? THanks.
