50's, 60's, 70's music

I've always had a soft spot for older music. I've done some searching on the internet for lists of hits and artists from the 50's - 70's eras and didn't find a whole lot. Anyone have any advice as to where to find lists of either hits or artists. I rarely pay attention to names of songs or artists, so I can't just search for them on limewire. If I hear the name of the song or artist though I normally recognize it.

Examples of songs I like:
Lion sleeps tonight
At the hop
Earth angel
The wanderer
Duke of Earl
ETC.....

I find google to be very good for searching for old music

Try searching for names like that use "(the name)"+70's or 80's etc. and you'll see

You know Sleepless, you may have hit on something there. I'm not very good with search engines and don't know triggers or parameters to use in the search to either expand or narrow the search. Is there somewhere I could go to get a list of things you can do here? I use Google almost exclusively and like the search engine. Just don't know how to use it properly, I guess.

There is a link on the google page that will teach you how to search. Mine is in a different language, but I would guess something like search advise or search tips

Also try to search for "how to google"

use " when searching

example: "lion sleeps tonight"+60's

you will get relevant searchresults that way

Try the top 50

Seriously I'd reckon at any given time 30% of the current top 50 are remakes of older songs. Search for a few and see if you can locate the original artists. Often (in my opinion anyway) the originals are much better, and are certainly not "doof Doofed"
