Avoiding Traffic Shapping Software

Im using limewire pro. My ISP has just applied traffic shapping software to its network so i can not use limewire anymore. It was the same with azuers bit torrent but i was able to change the port number and use the encription options in azureus which enabled me to continue downloading torrents.

Is there any options like this in Limewire ?

It depends upon how they use the program. They might only be using it to scan along a particular range of ports known for p2p sharing. The open range ports I'd suggest trying are (49152 - 65535). You might also try ports 1111, 3500, 443 & 80. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & that's where you can change ports.

I don't know if proxies can beat such programs but worth a last ditch look at if changing ports doesn't work. A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 2 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. The post in the middle of page 2 has some very good ones.

I would be informing your ISP that they are in breach of your contract with them, and tell them you wish to be released from any obligation to continue with them (at no cost) and find yourself an ISP willing to meet the obligations of the contract.

1. Video we often recommend VLC player as it has in-built codecs & is reliable for playback. Otherwise try to find the right codecs: CODECs list and alternate players for Movies

2. Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

3. Do this test, downld a magnet link from here & tell us what happens in regards to connection & speed: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

4. If you're using windows XP SP2 then it might be worth looking into these: MS & 3rd party patches

5. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of the LW interface? (see sample attachment image below)

They may well not be in breach of contract but thats not the point is it. Why would u continue to pay someone whos not providing u with the service you pay for and expect thats just dumb. Its because of people who ar to stubborn or foolish to drop thier isp that they are getting away with abusing thier customers rights these people ar the ones to blame for the shaping not the companys who do it they just get away wiv what they can you should be ashamed.

Thanks, the link does not want to download. I am downloading the VLC thanks. I tried restaring my PC last night and the problem was fixed. Left it today downloading while I was out. Now wont connect. I may have an intermitent issue with my broadband (i.e not staying connected). I can see a brick wall as per your image. What does this mean i need to do? Cheers
