quick simple question on viruses

I have read LOTR post on viruses. I just want to know one thing. I already have a anti virus security suite set up. Does this mean that when i download a file the a-virus software will be scanned automatically? Or do i download the file and then ,before opening, run a virus scan on that particular file?
I am considering using the PANDA software that LOTR reccomended as the others require IE and ive changed to Mozilla. Do I need this if my current security suite is up to date?
Thanks for any help you give!

Hi ronin4,
You might be able to set up your AV program to automatically scan new files after they've downloaded, have a look through the program's options. I open my shared folder outside of LW & scan new files manually.

If you're happy with your current security, then you don't necessarily have to go & get something new. Which AV are you using? Some AV programs won't run side-by-side with others, you'd have to check that out.

Always scan before opening. A rule to live by, no matter what the software promises. There are just too many nasties on the network to not do that
