New User Firewall

Took me quite a while to get Uploads working but have a question
the firewall icon that comes up with the World, it seems to turn itself on & off, is this normal?

If this happens after 15 mins then your modem/router device's UPnP may be unreliable. In that case, manual port forwarding may be necessary.
As Sphinx suggested, you may also need to configure your computer's software firewall if you haven't done so already. Instructions for this & the above point can be found in the 1st Sticky in the Connection Problems section of the forum.

Another reason it may happen is if LW is over-worked. If you open LW & resume all of your incomplete files by using the Resume/Find Sources function, then this may make LW struggle if you have many incomplete files. This will queue your files for much, much longer. A queued file means LW is too busy to handle it. And on some people's systems, resuming all files at once can not only make LW struggle by using up all its resources, but may also use up your computer's resources & may affect the communication between your computer system & your connection device. If using the Resume/Find Sources function, apply it to only 1-3 files at one time. ;)

Downloaded Limewire from one of the download sites,c-net I think, Limewire Version 4.10.9 Pro, Java 1.5.0_06 Windows XP, Serv.pack 2 Linksys router(wired), cable modem, the 6346 port test says its fine. Using Windows Onecare Firewall. Uploads are random and bunched together. Iv'e disabled my firewall to see if the Limewire firewall icon changed and it didn't. It seems to have a mind of its own.

And thanks, I do tend to resume all my downloads at once, will take your advice and have tried the steps to confiqure my router and firewall as outlined.

Turn window's XP firewall off if you're using another firewall. Even MS recommend not using another firewall with their own.

You didn't specify which linksys device you're using. There's many models & one or 2 work not as well as the rest. Did you enable UPnP on your Linksys device? If you use a Linksys WRT54G then please say as this model has problems.

Windows Firewall is off, Linksys BEFSR41 ver.3, UPnP is on and the service is started.

Sphinx, Lord of the Rings, Thanks a lot, routers UPnP seemed to be the problem, although it was on. Found an alternative to static ip address. under "application & gaming" select "UPnP forwarding" enter "listening Port#" for UDP & one for TCP check enable box and first ip address, now it stays open. Thanks again for all your help.

My Mac Mini OSX has the same problem...but, it is newly happening

We use 10.3.9 and paid for Limewire Pro.

The brick wall icon now covers the globe icon.

I have read all of the posts, but still do not understand what to do.

Is it a poor download of Pro ?

What is the usual number of downloaded songs people do ?

I am upset because I paid for Pro and it is slower that the unpaid mode. Please advise.

Thanks, Coline in Calgary, AB Canada

coline3bettson make sure if you have OSX firewall turned on that it is configured to allow LW full access. Also make sure your modem/router has UPnP enabled. Instructions here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

Since you didn't specify your connection device brand & model I can not give you specific advice but point you where to find the info.
