Possibly a bad problem? Hi, I recently redownloaded a fresh version of limewire. I found a movie (H*** and K*** go to W***), I believe in avi format (if that is a correct format name :P), and downloaded it. Every thing downloaded fine, and the movie file size a a perfect 699.99 megabytes. And that's where the problem began. When I try to play it, the sound comes through fine for the whole movie, but the visuals are missing. I know it's because I don't have the right program to play avi's, but iTunes (supossedly able to play any file, and convert it), won't even play it OR convert it :( . I recently read through tbe forums and couldn't find what I needed (or was just too impatient to  ). So, i would be very greatful (sp.?) if some one in the forums could (a.) tell me where to download a media player that plays avi's, and (b.) tell me how to convert an avi over to iTunes and then put it on a video iPod. I know, there are a ton of topics about this, but mine is in a way different (or not:confused: ). Thank you so much for reading this, and thank you ahead of time for the great help that I am sure I will recieve ;) . |
I can't help you with the ipod thing, but a good all round media player is VLC media player it has built in codecs and will play most media types. This thread is worth checking out CODECs list and alternate players for Movies Also please don't name the files cause piracy talk is against the Forum Rules;) |

You're missing the point. We don't want to know the specific names of files you're downlding if they are copyright. It's against the forum rules. Forum Rules (click here) BTW I don't know if you're using Mac or windows, but if you're using mac, it's very easy to convert to mpeg 4 or H.264 which is a type of mpeg 4 format. If you're using windows, then the answer was sitting under your nose as a Sticky at the top of this section; How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) with video. I don't know who told you iTunes could "supossedly able to play any file, and convert it" for video, as iTunes does not convert video. Check the link I left & there's multiple links about how to do it. Even the last link at the end of the video discussion paragraph. |

EDIT: I looked further into the problem, and it wasn't the format at all, the file simply had no video stream. Meheheh. Oh well, now I know for next time  . |
no vid stream I've had a couple like that. :o |
Are you sure it had no video stream or you just couldn't play it? Did you try it with VLC player? The size of the file should help indicate wether there's a video stream. Personally, most of the music videos I tried out with iTunes were mpeg & there was no issue importing them. So they must have been mpeg 4. But with mpeg you don't know whether you're getting mpeg 1, 2 or 4. It saves the issue of converting them. |
vid stream Yeah, I played them with VLC, but they weren't all music videos. I don't have the problem a lot so I just trash the file. Thanx ;) |
I've downlded a file I thought was video & it turned out to be an audio file. That's happened a few times. I think from memory it had an mpeg/mpg extension. It was a concert btw, or they were concerts (/song) should i say. I think from memory I just changed the extension to mp3, but I might be wrong. It's been a while now since I got one of those. I might have converted it to aiff & then to ... |
