help me please

K so here is the situation I got a viruse +++++ on my computer and had to put a firewall on everything. The following day after I had to do this I went into LimeWire to download songs and when I do a search it doesnt even bring up anything and the connection lights down in the lower left corner are all red... Please help me and make it easy for me to figure out because I am not computer smart.

You'll need to allow LW full access through your firewall. What firewall are you using? If your running windows xp it has a firewall in it. Not advisable to have two firewalls running at the same time. See Connection problems? Check here first!

ok so I am running on Windows XP and there is a norton firewall I believe I am not too sure though.

Just go up to file and click on Connect and see what it does. I had to do that on my iBook for it to connect... it wasn't just doing it automatically. Otherwise, sounds as if you will have to turn off a firewall. Follow the link the other poster gave you.

You should turn off the xp firewall and allow limewire access through the norton firewall. This thread should help Finally solved my connection problem: Configuring Norton Internet Security.

To turn off the windows firewall, from you desktop go to Start>Control Panel>Security Center>Windows firewall> tick the off button then click ok. It will warn you not to turn it off but if you have norton running then it's ok.

Hope this helps:). Post back if it doesn't.

K well its not working still.... I tried it all. The firewall is turned off but the firewall on the limewire says it's still on. I looked at the firewall connections and firewall is turned off... Don't get it guys I'm following all the steps and it just isnt working... Should I try and uninstall it and re-install it maybe that will work?

If you can answer these questions about your set up, it would help.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

Need the router name and model. The phone line should go from your comp. to the router and then to the phone jack. The router probably has a firewall in it that has to be configured for limewire to work. The make and model should be on the router somewhere. If you can't find it you may have to call your isp to find out.

If you can find that I will try to help you(I'm no expert), but there are instructions at this link.Connection problems? Check here first!
