newbie at this, need info please

Hello everyone, and thanks for reading my post. I am brand new at this stuff, and need to be pointed in the right direction.

I am able to download all files from Limewire, and burn audio to a cd, can anyone help me with how to burn MOVIES to dvd? I can download them, but don't know what to do next. Do I just use Nero? Do I have to "convert" different files before I burn or something like that?

Also, can anyone tell me what an AVI, MP4, asx, ram is? Is am mpg a movie, or is a MOV a movie? but I DO know what an mp3 is!!!!!!!!! LOL.

Also, one last question, I promise, is there a way to stop the porn titles coming up when I search?

any links to sites or any help would be greatly appreciated:D

I won't explain how to burn a dvd as it varies depending upon which software you're using to burn with. Others on the forum can help here.

The files you should be aiming to downld for video should be either mpeg/mpg or AVI. See Movie download issues

mp4 is mpeg4. But if you see a file with this extension, it can be either video or audio. Most likely it will be audio, as the equivalent to m4a. mp4 audio = m4a

asx = from memory is a streaming format. It's best to ignore these. In fact, I filter them out using my Keyword filter by adding .asx How to use the Keyword Filter

ram unless I'm mistaken is a RealPlayer format. Perhaps also best left alone. I just checked "Reference one or more remote RealAudio or RealMedia streams."

AVI = AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave. It is a special case
of the RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format). AVI is defined by
Microsoft. AVI is the most common format for video data on the
PC.

You need to tell us what program you are using to burn dvd's.

I am using NERO STARTSMART to burn my dvd's. I have CloneDVD, for copying.;)

After I have downloaded the file to "my movies", what do I do then? I have no idea. I would presume it's not as easy as just picking the file out of "browse" and then clicking "burn". THAT would be TOO easy heh heh.:p

Thanks for your help Lord.
Carol.

In StartSmart across the top of the screen choose Photo & Video then choose Make your Own DVD-Video, Then add video files, just browse and double click on the file you want. Follow the instructions from there. You can edit, resize, convert. Just keep clicking next and follow the instructions.

first time burner

I was told to get sonic my dvd

There are many programs that will do the job. I do not particularly care for Sonic my DVD for burning. But I do use it for importing analog signals IE old VCR/TV etc. But it is pretty slow for burning and converting and it is also uses more ram and cpu than most of the others when converting and burning.

What player are you using? You might need codecs, there are a few links here
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ght=wmp+codecs

There's also a link to VLC player, which is pretty good & has lots of codecs. If you want to use VLC or are already using it, you'll have to preview & launch videos outside of LW (if you're using Win. Mac users can preview & launch within LW).
