Legal or illegal

I was courious. Is the limewire music shareware program legal or illegal.

gummyshark March 30th, 2006 08:08 PM

legal shmeagle

Here we go again---Why do I bother?

Because I have the patience of a saint? No, because I enjoy patronising people who ask question based on mental laziness.

Do spend some time actually reading some of the guides and threads on the subject before posting, there's a good chap. It did occur that as you are unable to spell "curious", that might be a bit too complex for you.

The PROGRAMME is perfectly legal,as indeed are virtually all P2P applications and Bit Torrent. (except the scam sites which charge you for open source freeware)

In most countries, except Canada , it IS AN OPFFENCE TO download/ copy copyrighted material of any kind. That means songs, films, TV programmes, and books--unless you pay a fee to the licensed provider,as in pay-per-view TV,and various download sites, where you pay per song---

Are you gonna be arrested, beaten to a pulp and thrown in the slammer years, and years and YEARS? Fairly unlikely, unless you are a professional pirate. Even less likely if you are a minor,in which case the worst that can probably happen is your dad will yell at you,and take away your PC for a week..

As I say, all the bloody time:-If you have problems, or are fearful---Don't bloody use P2P!!!!!!

Cheers

gummyshark... if you don't want to answer these questions then don't;)

It might be nicer just to direct someone to the forum search. Yeah, people should learn to use the search but a lot of them don't even know that it exists.

gummyshark March 31st, 2006 01:48 PM

"Nice"? moi? I don't think so.

mmmm--Ok, thought I did suggest some reading might be in order.--but asking me to be "nice" is going a bit far.

I am a newbie on this forum, and was testing the water, which may be too shallow for me. I was wondering if someone would jump in and rescue what's his name.

What passes for my wit is facetious, sardonic and acerbic.

I will do my best not to attack people personally, but will comment ,if I wish on some behaviour.

Birdy: Are you a moderator? If so, I will take some notice of you. If not it may come as a surprise that I am not at all interested in your expectations.

There's 2 sides to this disagreement. I agree with both. You both have valid points. Eventually, with any luck with this version of the forum software, new users will be forced to review forum rules & links to stickies & forum sections before they post. (We just need to adapt the script & add it. We have other forum fine tuning to do at present which takes precedence.)

Hmm...well, first of all, LimeWire is not shareware. It has a LimeWire Basic and LimeWire Pro version. Pro downloads faster and has more search results. And also LimeWire is not just for music. Anyway, downloading music is illegal in the U.S. but if you live in Canada, you don't need to worry about anything :)

Gotta love living in Canada :D

It's not illegal here either unless you bootleg it (sell or use it for financial gain or broadcast it.)

Ferral March 31st, 2006 08:39 PM

Its not illegal to download music anywhere in the world, unless the music you are downloading is copyrighted (Yes I know 99% of it is) Once it is copyright material the laws varies considerably.

jgtc_lover March 31st, 2006 10:51 PM

im confused, so its only illegal if you mass produce it and sell it?
