Why cant i get rid of limewire?

I deleted the program from my computer and a message keeps coming up almost all the time (when i switch it on, after ive closed the window that pops up it keeps coming back). It's exceedingly irritating, can someone point me in the right direction? This is the report:

Java version 1.4.1_02 from Sun Microsystems Inc.

Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86

Well to begin with you said you deleted the file. When you delete the file it does not uninstall LimeWire it just deletes a portion of it. You will have to reinstall it the go to add and remove programs and uninstall it.

2nd. I have a felling you may have deleted it because it kept starting up by itself all of the time . If this is the case you probably downloaded and opened a file 851.7kb in size which you found nothing in. Guess what if that is what happened there was something inside a virus that makes LimeWire start up by itself and creates 1000's of copies of itself.

If that is what happened the link below will help. If you can't get rid of it your self there is a link to Norbie's world in the link below, He will be able to help you get rid of it. And by the way this virus disables most anti virus apps so they will not detect it. And even if they do allot of them can not get rid of it.

Yeah, I think what you might have done is just deleted the files of the program...but that's not enough. First of all, if you want a program gone from your computer, you open your Control Panel, and open 'Add/Remove Programs'. You can open that and search for LimeWire and remove it or you can open Start, and then 'All Programs', and then search for LimeWire and click Uninstall.

You will have to reinstall it first. The uninstaller is located in the file you deleted.

Oh yes, this is very common.

You shouldn't have installed limewire in the first place, that's the problem. :)

Litanss

You should not post things you have not investigated and know nothing about. If you would have looked at the link you posted you would have noticed it says (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\cur rentversion\shareddlls\c:\program files\limewire\2.9.8) That would be version 2.9.8 which did contain adware. The addware was removed long ago. The current version of LimeWire is 4.11.0

If you would have searched your registry by going to Start/Run then typing in (regedit) into the box you would have seen none of those entries exist.

But since you did none of those things and have posted all over the forum about LimeWire being crap. You have done nothing but show how Little you know.

If you wish to keep on posting about LimeWire being spyware and how crappy it is go right ahead. You are very easy to prove wrong. It just shows your ineptness and all it will do is get you banned. If you had a problem of getting a virus or could not make LimeWire work properly you should have ask for help. But you didn't now you just look like a fool.
