quick question from a new user In my connections tab there are three outgoing connections listed as ppp-69-239-30-44.dsl.sktca.pacbell.net is an example. Why would there be any outgoing connections if I haven't tried to search or download? Can or should these be stopped or deleted in some way? |
These are the UltraPeers that you connect to on the network and is normal. You shouldn't worry about that. It's part on the program |
Connections What are the outgoing things and who are Ultrapeers? |
To search, you have to send the query to connected hosts. Those are the computers listed in your connections. They take your search and either return the file, or pass it on to others. If your machine reached out and found them, the connection type was "outgoing." You'll connect to three or five other computers. The computers that accept connections are called Ultrapeers. They connect to 32 other Ultrapeers to help your search. Each Ultrapeer looks after ~32 "Leafs" so your searches reach more than just three other machines. Make no sense?
