Turn Firewall On
 

This might be a stupid question, but how do you turn Windows firewall on? I went to Windows Firewall, but it doesnt let me switch to Yes. http://i1.tinypic.com/v4vw9z.jpg

Maybe you could go to Advance and click on Restore defaults...

Have you ran a virus scan ??

Do you have a security suite or similar on your PC. Many of those disable the windows firewall and should as well. They have their own built in firewalls most of the time

There are a few things that will disable Windows firewall and not allow you to turn it on. If you are running another firewall such as Norton if you selected to allow Norton to disable Windows Firewall when you install it will prevent you from turning it on.

Another thing that will prevent you is not quite so pleasant. There are several viruses running around out there that will disable the Windows firewall. These viruses will also disable your antiviruse's ability to detect them. Just because your antivirus did not detect a virus does not mean there isn't one there.

I would suggest you do a on line scan just to make sure. There are a couple of links below to on line virus scans.

This might not be considered constructive advice, but you could flog your PC on ebay and buy a Mac. Worked for me

Thanks gramps, I mean grandpa. I'll check all 3 scans. And I dont use norton, but I'll search incase I have it without me knowing.

And easterhay, thanks for the advice, but I'm gonna stick with my PC.

...I understand. And besides, my clunky old Windoze 98 laptop still copies CDs better on its external writer than my shiny white iBook, so I shouldn't really criticize!

And doing the Panda scan, I'm still not done, and I got 80 Spyware, and 1 Hacking Tools. I did a spyware scan yesterday! Most of them are probably some kinda cookies
