Newbie Question - Number of Downloads

Does the number of downloads running affect the speed of individual downloads? I have 5 movies on the go at present. I tried to select the downloads on the basis of the largest number of hosts available. Obviously I don't expect these big files to be downloaded in the twinkling of an eye.

What happens is that I start up Limewire in the morning (I've got the Pro edition) and one or two downloads go racing away, downloading from a host of hosts at speeds of up to 40 kbs, causing my little heart to go pt-a-pat! Then within a few minutes, it's crawling along at 1 or 2 kbs, causing me to utter the immortal words "Oh, bugger!"

Does anyone have any wise words for me? Is it all some cosmic, cuel game of chance? Am I just a pawn in the great game?

Many thanks

Falstaff

If you've got a super fast connection, you might be able to handle downloading 5 movies at once, at a reasonable speed. You've only got a certain amount of bandwidth & if you devote all of that to one download... nice speeds! Divide that same bandwidth between 5 downloads... oh,no, slower speeds ;)

If it was me, I'd just do one or two at a time. That way, you'll get faster download speeds & (hopefully) get your movies downloaded before half of the hosts go offline & reduce your speed yet again. Just my opinion:)

Try it & see what you think!

Wrong Movie in Selected Title

I've been trying to download 'Take The Lead' Antonio Banderas
Search found a bunch but the 2 I burnt are wrong movies.
Just wasted a few hours and 2 cd DVD

Where can I report it so others will not fall into some idiots tricks
(there were 36 'host' on one dl)

Let me be :)

Many thanks Birdy.

I have broadband - according to Limewire my connection is turbo charged - nice! I have taken your advice and paused all but 2 downloads. At the time of writing one is downloading from 2 host at 2kbs and the other from 2 hosts at 5 kbs. After reading as much as I can about downloading from other posts on this forum ( some really excellent information...creep, crawl...) I checked my Windows Firewall; Limewire is an exception so I don't want to disable the firewall.

I will keep fingers, eyes and any other bits crossed.

Cheers

Remember that your download speed also depends on the host. Their connection type, number of uploads they're allowing at once etc. If they have a slow connection, you'll never get a fast download speed from them. Try to pick the downloads that have the most hosts, seem to give you the best speeds & have 4 or 3 star connections. Get them done first. The slow plodders, you can always leave going overnight or search again for the file if it's so slow that it's giving you a pain:)

Please don't mention titles of copyrighted material that you're downloading, it's against the forum rules
https://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-discussion-topics/announcements.html

When you're searching for a file & your results come up, right click on the file > advanced > look up file with Bitzi. Now you can see if Bitzi has a bitprint of the file & if it's been rated. If you want to rate files yourself, just download the Bitcollider & off you go. This way, you can report crap/misnamed files & save other people some pain!

Also preview your file during download. Then you have some idea of what you're getting & if it's obviously the wrong file or a bad version... kill the download.

Don't burn the thing to DVD until you've made sure it's a good version!

wrong file, right title

thanks Birdy for the lesson...

since i'm stubborn, i downloaded again from other hosts, this time it was a blank file with some half-tone noise.

how can some idiots start up with uploading a movie and then change the file name to something that is very well searched for?

doesn't it slows down their own connection while ppl. uploading from their.

i used Bitzi on a few tiltles on the list: none have data yet

maybe my movie is not even online yet, period.

Just wait a while. Since it just came out, you're probably gonna get a camera version which will prob suck.
