Not Opening On Desktop

Ok so I need a little help. I've had limewire for a little over a month now...and all of a sudden I can't open limewire from my desktop AT ALL. I double click it and it won't open. Soooo what do I do and how can I fix this?!?

da1nonly April 17th, 2006 07:29 PM

Something wrong with that shortcut perhaps?

chasity April 17th, 2006 07:42 PM

Yeah possibly...the problem is, I don't know what's wrong with it!

Why dont you find Limewire from the start menu and try that one. If that one doesnt work either, something might be wrong.

chastity,

There are a few fixes to try here

Have you recently installed any new antispyware/security programs? If you have, make sure you add LW to the list of exceptions/allowed apps:)

Please just post a thread once, otherwise it becomes a PITA!

Yeah I've had antispyware on my computer for a while and it's never bothered LW until now. How do I put LW under the list of exceptions?

try this chasity: go to program files/limewire and locate limewire.exe...

double click on that....

if that works, minimize that window, and whilst on the desktop delete the shortcut there...if you have one on your start bar, delete that one also...

the go back the the program files/limewire window and right click on limewire.exe, and choose to make a short cut....move said shortcut to your desktop...whilst at limewire.exe you can also right clixor it and choose 'pin to start menu'...

Yeah see it would be nice if that actually worked but I can't get LW to open no matter how I go about trying to open it. I double click on the shortcut...it doesn't open. I try it from the start button...it doesn't open. I right click it...still doesn't open. It's really irritating

Did you try the other fixes (deleting prefs etc)?
If you've had your antispyware running for a while without it causing a prob for LW, it might not be that.??? Have you updated/upgraded the protection recently?
Somewhere there should be the option to allow certain progs/apps to run regardless of whether the antispyware thingy sees them as a threat. You might just have to have a look (I'm not going to be much help there as I only use Spybot & Ad-Aware):)

I was playing around with an adware scanner this weekend whilst dealing with a nasty trojan, and even though I thought I unticked everything associated with BearShare (this app thinks its evil obviously) it still took something with it when I let it loose to do a little cleaning....it was dead, dead, dead...an uninstall and fresh install solved that problem nicely (and I uninstalled said app..stoopid thing)
