Default How does LimeWire determine cable/dsl speed

I use LimeWire PRO and was wondering what speed constitutes cable/dsl. For example modem is 56kbps, T1 is 1.54 mbps, and T3 is 45 mbps. However cable and dsl speed can range from 768kbps to 15 mbps in the area that I live in. I have cable and my speed is approximately 6-8mbps. So obviously modem and T3 are out of the question. But if cable/dsl is only say 768kbps-1mbps then T1 is closer to my speed even though I'm faster then 1.54 mbps. I'm sorry if what I just said is confusing but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will know what is best for me. I'll appreciate any help I can get.

What is you UL capabilities be careful not to overload your connection if you allow more UL bandwidth than you have it may affect your DL speed.
