HELP can't fix limewire

When I click on limewire it doesn't load up at all. I tried re-installing it but it says limewire is in the system tray. However when I look in the system tray it is not there. I remember I tried re-installing it but it said it was in use so I clicked ignore and went through with it anyway. I am almost positive this caused a major problem. I have removed the program from the control panel and rebooted my pc several times. Yet I still can't get it to work. What is it I need to do to fix this problem.

Open the Task Manager by pressing and holding Ctrl+Alt the press delete. Once it is open click on Applications and see if LimeWire install is running. If it is highlight it and click on End Task. Then try installing.

No don't use the control panel to remove LW. That will cause problems. The way to uninstall LW is Start menu >Programs>LW>Uninstall. Else, reinstalling will remove the previous version at the beginning of the installation process.

BTW if LW stops running, the 1st thing to try is deleting the LW preferences folder; Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Still Won't Work

I have installed java offline and i have also tried to delete the .limewire folder. However everytime I try it says that the splash screen is in use. I am assuming that this means my pc is reading limewire as being active. But I checked the task manger and it says it is not active. Therefore i can not figure out why it won't work. Is there anything else i can try doing. If not I am afraid I will have to buy a new pc immediately.

i can't see the link.

Bad link. You don't have access unfortunately. Grandpa will have to repeat the info here. ;)

Oops sorry:o

Open the task manager back up stay on the processes page highlight each instance of LimeWire exe. then click on end process. This should stop them if it doesn't you will have to delete the LimeWire folder or folders and edit the registry.

Here's a link that should work for the other thread as it's been copied elsewhere for future reference: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=56558

I got Limewire to start running. However now when I click on the icon it takeas a while for the splash screen to load up and when it finally does load up it does not have that little block that slides back and fourth across the bottom while it says things like initializing connection and loading menu etc. I think this may be because I deleted the .limewire folder. I was wondering how can I get the .limewire folder back like it was originally. Thanks for all the help so far I appreciate it.

I just discovered that when I click Limewire instead of the PRO screen loading up normally it just pauses for a few minutes then the all green limewire basic screens loads up and initializes everything. So I think there is something wrong with the PRO splash screen and I was wondering could it be the .limewire folder like I mentioned previously. I honestly have no clue where to begin maybe someone else knows. Thanks again.

It sounds like it is basic that is loading not Pro. When it connects how many host does it connect to 3 or 5

Angry Pirate May 29th, 2006 08:40 AM

It connects to five and has the light blue turbo charged connection. However the splash screen reverts back to basic and takes a while to load up. Can you tell me how to get the .limewire folder back I can't find it after I deleted it last night.

If limewire is running it is there. The link the Lord left you fixes for limewire has the location for the .limewire folder. If you are using a newer version the location may have changed. It explains it in the link above. Also make sure your setting are set to show hidden files and folders.
