illegal?

is limewire illegal to use if you are not paying for it?

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 07:55 PM

No but if you download copyrighted material it may be illegal depending on where you live.

trevor57 May 29th, 2006 09:51 AM

no you have nothing to worry about ... you already said you wouldn't download copyright material when you downloaded limewire... it's all good ;)

batty1955 May 29th, 2006 04:24 PM

copyright

How can you tell if it's copyrighted?

Grandpa May 29th, 2006 05:03 PM

If it doesn't have a license and is or has been for sale to the public or most TV shows it is most likely copyrighted. If you think about it it is pretty easy to figure out.

batty1955 May 29th, 2006 05:16 PM

legal!

Have discovered that if I lived in Canada I could download anything - legally - so I think that emigration calls! :-)

Yes - it is pretty easy to work out, but some of the sites are so confusing - so basically everyone risks being fined for misuse -

Botox May 29th, 2006 05:22 PM

Where I am I don't have to worry about emigrating. Uploading & downloading is fine according to present laws here. Recent laws created in regards to copyright even seem to support this ... great move by the government!

batty1955 May 29th, 2006 05:50 PM

Illegal

That is great - I guess that i thought that is what i subscribing to - expensive lesson - as I can't contact the site - only by phone and as i live in the Uk that isn't really an option. Nevef mind (I do) but it could have been worse.
I am now trying to delete the whole package but it's left bits behind - any ideas how I can get shut of it all together?

daydo May 29th, 2006 07:34 PM

Batty ur post concerns me, (some of the sites) (expensive lesson) there is only 1 site to dl limewire from its www.limewire.com anywhere else and youve been scammed, basic is free pro costs 18.88 for 6 months not a very expensive lesson. If uv been scammed as it appears to me then its no wonder its left bits behind no doubt the adware that was in it. Also if uv uninstalled it and are having pop ups saying its still there u need to make a trip to http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/ to get that virus sorted im afraid.

batty1955 May 30th, 2006 02:00 AM

scammed

Oh I paid more than that for just the basic package! Plus I was charged for a spyware tool that I didn't ask for. I am asking for my money back if I can actually get in contact with someone ....

Never mind (although I do) - shows how vulnerable we are really doesn't it!

Thanks for the link

:-)

How will the law know when someone downloads copyrighted stuff onto their computer ?

da1nonly May 30th, 2006 12:35 PM

All computers have something im them to allow specific people to see.

batty1955 May 30th, 2006 01:16 PM

What d'ya know!!

Well, I would firstly like to thank you all for your help with apparent 'scammers'

Secondly, I have requested a refund and this has been agreed - so will see what happens over the next 7 days - has restored my faith in human nature a little - maybe prematurely but every little helps!!!

Thanks to you all!

Batty

Well there is an illegal way to get limewire pro... But you have to find that out for yourself!

munki May 30th, 2006 07:53 PM

im confused

so-if i download a song from a famous artist that was made five years ago it is illegal because it most likely has a copyright? and if i download a movie that says its from a dvd rip thats illegal?

trevor57 May 30th, 2006 07:58 PM

Probably.

munki May 30th, 2006 08:11 PM

then what is there to download thats legal?

KrazeeLikeBones May 31st, 2006 04:35 AM

Well look at it this way... If you do get it illegally, Who's going to know? Who's going to tell? Why should they care? They cannot stop everyone now can they?

There's lots of stuff that's not copyright. There's bands that use p2p to promote & spread their music. There's photographers who do the same & share similar. And for some other material, there's http://www.magnetmix.com/ / http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml & some others I can't think of the name of at the moment.
BTW I share some of my previous bands' music & I know of others who do the same.
