Question "...cannot find a license for this song."

I'm new at this downloading stuff, so bare with me, as I learn the ropes. I have just downloaded Limewire Basic on my Mac laptop. I selected a song to hear/download and immediately received a message from Limewire stating, "Limewire is unable to find a license for this song." What exactly does this mean to me? Does this mean that I should not download the particular piece of music?

Duhhh, sorry if this appears to be an ignorant question, but--as I stated--I'm new to this medium and am not clear about the parameters of use. For what it's worth, I am a 63-year old female. I travel a lot in my work and my only intention is to store some music selections on my own laptop computer and listen to them on the road.

A reply from anyone who can provide some guidance will be greatly appreciated, so that I don't get in some kind of trouble... You can contact me privately.

Mz. Mac

Yeah, I am guessing the link birdy gave you will answer most questions. It depends where you live on whether it's legal or not for you to download it.
In the United States, downloading and sharing copyright protected material is illegal, however you will not get caught for just downloading - just don't share it. In most other countries downloading is legal, but sharing is illegal.

You might want to find out what the laws are in your country before downloading anything that doesn't have a license.

Default "... can't find a license..."

Thanks to all who replied. Sounds like just about anything one wants to download is (in the U.S.) illegal. So, I have the same question that someone else had: What is available through Limewire that can be legally downloaded!?! I'm missing something here that a whole bunch of folks seem to know about ... "Duhh" again?
