A virus thats spreading quickly

The is a file that is exactly 228.0 KB in size that when downloaded not only gives ur computer a virus (not sure what the virus is called) but also make many duplicates of itself in you're shared files folder with hot item names such as photoshop 9.0. Infact if u search anything that really popular you will almost always find at least 10 files that are 228 KB in size and have the same suffix as the 228 KB files you will find in photoshop 9.0. If someone that works with limewire reads this message plz do something about this. My laptop was ruined by this virus and many people that i knows computer has been ruined by the same thing. Thank you

There is another one that is 134kb - easy to scroll through and see how many files of this size there are and AVOID THEM !

Anyone with half a brian knows the small files are trojans I suggest you not download everything you see on Gnutella and do some math to figure out the size of the files something that small is not going to be the file you are looking for or even better stop trying to download software then maybe you wont see the trojans in your searches or better yet try reading or browsing the forum before posting this comes up every day.

A virus that's spreading quickly

"Anyone with half a BRIAN" huh ? !!! :p

Sowhat good is Limewire

The problem is that every time you try to download something you get nothing but virus files which makes Limewire useless.

Not true. Its not Limewire that useless, it's the users who use it that dont know what they're doing or talking about that are useless. Guess you kids never took basic math. Thats what you get when you download zip files and trying to steal software. I have no sympathy for anyone who doesnt know the basics of math or P2P or cant read a forum or browse before they post. If you're getting viruses, then I suggest you stay away from such files.

and its not Limewire but Gnutella users and their dummy computers that are spreading the viruses for newbies to download NOT Limewire.

I think it is entirely unnecessary to be insulting - people are trying to learn. Not everyone is fortunate enough to know this stuff.
Give 'em a break!

A little rational

1) I do understand Maths.

2) I do understand how to use Limewire.

3)I do understand that it is some retarded geeks spreading viruses.

4)I don't understand the need to be insulting when replying to threads.

All I'm saying is that if everytime Limewire attempts to find a programme it downloads a lot of Virus related files then it is not of much use, it would be good if we were able to stop the Virus files from ever getting on to Limewire, but then it would be a different progam altogether.

Insults, etc.

I would like to address the newbies in this thread, i.e. Whoisit, Mad Hatter and Catbox4.

First of all, Whoisit

The first thing you said in this thread was:
Quote:

every time you try to download something you get nothing but virus files which makes Limewire useless.
You did go onto qualify what you wrote in a different post but, as you can see, what you said is inflammatory. It also seems to show your basic lack of knowledge of how LW, or any P2P app, works and the necessary precautions you should take to protect your PC.

Whether all this is true I really don't know but I believe most of you newbies do not put much thought into what you are writing and you fail to realise your comments are being read by a worldwide audience that only knows you through what you write.

Mad Hatter

You are obviously not a newby and you have gained your experience through trial and error (and possibly reading the LW manual and the stickies). But the one issue I have with what you said is:
Quote:

Not everyone reads the user's manual when they download the software. (I wasn't even aware the information was there until well after I had paid for it.)
While this is true I get the feeling you condone (what I call) this reckless behaviour.

The reason we read is to learn, to understand and possibly to avoid dangerous situations. I feel that any newby that fails to read (or give a cursory glance) at a manual for new software is asking for trouble (and deserves that trouble when they get it).
Therefore, like Sphinx, I have no sympathy for anyone with the ability to read that just ignores their user manual, manuals are not written for the fun of it they provide valuble information and the "do's" and "don'ts" that should be observed.

Catbox4

I will refer you to my note to Whoisit and would further say that if he chose his words more carefully, which do cause offence, then there would have been no need for insults.

I believe that this forum runs much better if forum members understood that although we all speak and write in English we are from different parts of the world with different idiosyncrasies. Therefore, in order not to cause offence to anyone we should think clearly about what we want to say then write it down in plain English, because anything else is likely to be misunderstood.

UK Bob

PS. One other thing, regularly forum members like myself and spinx get fed up with continuing streams of newbies saying "LW gave me viruses" and other assorted comments when all they have to do is read the stickies to get the info they need.

Protection

Hi all, I downloaded a 228k file out of curiosity and found it wasn't nice, but my anti-virus software caught it before it did any damage. The program is AVG and is is FREE for private users from Grisoft at www.grisoft.com. Also free updates. This should help safe file sharing ;) cheerio
