Artistdirect.com

My searches currently result in around forty hits of around one hundred and fifty sources each which all open the internet site of 'http :/ www. artistdirect. com/?aff=gnnap' and less than a quarter of what I would normally get from genuine sources. If this company is going to start swamping Limewire how long before others jump on the bandwagon; you can identify the artistdirect because of the abnormally high number of results and the Browse Host feature being unavailable.

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2006 03:59 AM

This ability of those spammed files has been stopped with the newest LW version 4.12.3; get it here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml (or from your personal pro page if you're a pro user)

artistdirect.com

Hi, I'm fairly new to limewire but I'm really frustrated as I can't download music files anymore. I keep getting redirected to the artistdirect.com website. I have limewire 4.10.9. Do i now need to upgrade and pay for a newer version in order to eliminate being redirected to this website? I can't download from other sources with lower number of hits either. Please help!

Sleepless July 3rd, 2006 08:51 AM

Try the tips in this link. I use them and have never been redirected anywhere. If you still get redirected searching like that, then you probably have some adware on your comp.

How to find music :)

If still redirected, this thread has a lot of links to Antimalwareprograms

yeah, i have the same problem as "mee". i'm pretty new to lime wire as well and some of my seraches get directed to that site.

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2006 09:51 AM

So did you update your LW to 4.12.3? That fixed it for others who were getting redirected by spam results.

If I download the newer version of LW (free version), will I lose all my music and files that are saved in my current LW program? I'm having the same problem, being redirected to the ArtistDirect/Napster site. The major resolution seems to be to update LW. I definitely do not want to lose all the music I have though.
.....Survey says.....?

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2006 09:55 AM

You will only lose your music if you save it into your LW program folder. If you save it elsewhere such as the default location then no problems. The default location is C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared

One last question

[QUOTE=Lord of the Rings]You will only lose your music if you save it into your LW program folder. If you save it elsewhere such as the default location then no problems. The default location is C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared

OK, it is set to default for storing the files. But, now I am wondering if I will have to switch back and forth between the old version and new version for songs or will the files merge, and the songs from the older version automatically appear in the new version? Is there a way to just update the LW program or do you just re download the whole program and do I uninstall the old version? Ok, I guess that's more than 1 question...but thanks for the help!!

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2006 10:12 AM

The new version will take over the downloads from the older version as if it was the same program. So nothing to worry about! ;) :) No uninstalling is necessary. LW will uninstall the other version at the beginning of the installation process.

BTW it's not wise to jump between versions as jumping backwards in versions "might" result in the downlds refusing to load. It depends on how much older the version is.

CharliesChic76 July 3rd, 2006 10:36 AM

OK, I downloaded the new version, but now it cant locate souces to download the installer.....ugh....

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2006 10:55 AM

what the heck are you talking about ... get it from here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml Choose the "Offline" installer version.

It sounds to me like you are trying to downld thru LW.

I did download it from there. When the installer opens, it says..."downloading installer from 0 of 353 sources...Please wait...If there is no progress for several minutes, please restart installer." Then when I try to reopen the installer, it says Windows cannot open the program, soooo, I redownload and try again that way...to no avail....am I really just dumb, what am I doing wr:confused:    ong??

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2006 11:05 AM

Do you have LW open at the moment? If yes, close it. Then try again. The "Offline" installer should be the complete installation with no need to access the net for downlding the remainder of the installer files. Perhaps even close net connection temporarily.

I've never heard of that problem before.

Sleepless July 3rd, 2006 11:13 AM

You have downloaded the online installer (the one the says recommended)

The offline installer is just one file containing everything you need.

If using windows then it's the on below the recommended one

Somewhat new, too.......

I've used limewire close to a year now and for the most part I am happy:) , but here lately when you get results you get that annoying:mad: site that takes up 90% of your results and you really don't get good results. I have looked at the new version and I see no place to download the new version without paying again. I have pro and for the most part like it but was wondering if you can download more than three at a time??

CharliesChic76 July 3rd, 2006 12:18 PM

3 songs u mean?...i do 8 @ a time at most...usually keep it around 4 for speed's sake.

Wadido July 3rd, 2006 12:21 PM

.........

Yeah, 3, sorry for the multi-response..........8 huh, well, what am I missing here??

Well I have the free version and u can set it in the options how many simultaneous downloads to allow. I would have to imagine u have that option in Pro.......Tools, options, downloads, maximum downloads.

Wadido July 3rd, 2006 12:42 PM

Thanks! I had assumed it got upped automatically when you went pro!!:o

TezL July 3rd, 2006 01:25 PM

Lord Of The Rings: I followed your advice and installed the Limewire 4.12.3: from what I can see so far it works fine and no more being transferred to artistdirect.com or any other commercial site. I am also back to getting what I would expect of genuine results. Many thanks

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2006 01:40 PM

Good to hear TezL. ;) You can always check to see whether updating is worthy by seeing http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml (perhaps bookmarking the page) :)

If you want to avoid the browser popup redirects, then update to either LW 4.12.3 basic or pro. Other options are noted here: Sponsored Results (click on link)
