yikes so i was on my computer minding my own business when i decide to open up limewire to download some audio files i only wanted legal ones that were not copyright protected in anyway well i download some and i accidentally downloaded a copyright protected audio file! i feel terrible for ripping off that artist as he deserves the money from cds and i am also now worried that i have broken a law since i am in the united states and im scared to death that someone will come after me and throw me in jail for life what do i do where do i go!

I don't think anyone will come after you for one file. There are many people who have thousands. But you should delete it if it is copyrighted material. DL copyrighted material in the US is illegal if you do not own the rights to that material. (You haven't previously purchased the material) If you have purchased the material it is not illegal to DL it.

I wouldn't worry Yikes. If you are not comfortable downloading copyright material then just delete it. BTW if you own the original CD it isn't illegal to download an extra copy. Just a thought since this seems to be really scaring you.
