Have you tried using another player? VLC is a good one, it will play most files.
Codecs & VLC
If the movie still freezes, chances are that it's a bad file. Look up movies before download with Bitzi, if the file's been rated you'll get an idea of it's quality;)
How to use Bitzi

It sounds like the overall dvd bit rate is too high!!! Make sure audio is in dolby surround ac-3 format & that the "maximum" video bit rate does not exceed 8 or so (maximum is not average or target bit rate!!!) Certainly no higher than 8.5. Some dvd players can't handle dvd bit rates that are higher than 9. And dvd bitrates are the total of audio & video bitrates combined including menus. So aim for a "overall" bitrate of less than 8.5 Again, keep in mind maximum video bit rate when doing this.

Either your video joiner or converter at fault by the sounds. Recheck their settings very carefully. ;)

how do i do all that.sorry i am new to this.dont know where to find the bit rates.

Lord of the Rings August 16th, 2006 06:49 AM

Read the manuals. I've never used those particular programs. There will be a settings option somewhere in the program ... perhaps preferences.

sher1712 August 16th, 2006 06:55 AM

my easy video joiner has not got any settings but cucosoft bitrates were already low so i moved them to 7.do you think being to low could have caused the problem aswell.

Lord of the Rings August 16th, 2006 07:51 AM

No. Commercial dvd's released a few years ago were all at around 4. So I don't think so. Check the audio format. Make sure it's not set to PCM audio. PCM audio uses over 1.5 which is a little too high for movies!!! Also some players are not good at handling pcm audio believe it or not.

when i go into audio on my cucosoft it says "output sample rate 48000Hz"it also says "audio synch"and it has a check box which i havent ticked which says "force to synch audio".i have the audio set at AC-3.i cant find anything which says PCM audio.

Lord of the Rings August 16th, 2006 11:36 AM

48 KHz is what's needed for dvd. But that's not the bitrate at which the audio is converted to. But AC-3 is fine.
Check if there's a maximum video bitrate.
If the bitrate is not the problem then either the software or the burning or the player is the problem.

How old is your dvd player? Are you using dvd+ or DVD- disks? Are you sure your dvd player can play both formats ok? Are you using 4.7 GB disks or 8.5 GB disks? Do you burn at maximum speed? What speed are the disks capable of & what speed do you burn at? Have you tried burning a DVD-RW disk 1st to see if that plays ok? You might try burning at minimum speed. Might also try a different brand of disk. It's difficult to put a finger on your exact problem. Disk skipping or freezing is generally either due to too high a dvd content bit rate, or the player doesn't like that brand or type or speed burnt at disk or perhaps the player itself needs cleaning.

sher1712 August 16th, 2006 01:19 PM

maximum video bitrate is set to 9000.i have just bought my dvd player.i have got dvd-discs.my dvd player can play dvd+ and dvd-.i am using 8x4.7 GBdiscs at maximum speed.

Lord of the Rings August 16th, 2006 01:37 PM

Recommendations:

1. Reduce the maximum bit rate to between 8-8.3 (that's much!!! more than sufficient for catering for changes in movement between frames). It sounds to me like with your max set at 9 with ac3 & menus added on top it might be a bit much for your player to handle. I never have my max above 8.3, & I do outsourced pro work with video conversion, etc. Maximum bit rates at that high are only intended for very fast action & swift changes between frames & sections. eg: sports or high speed action. Normal videos are happy with a maximum well below 8.

2. Try burning your disks at minimum speed whatever that is. eg: 1, 2 or 4 speed.

3. Try a DVD-RW disk if your burner supports dvd-rw burning. Then after re-encoding at a lower bit rate see if the same problem occurs.

thanks very much for your help.that seems to have helped by reducing the speed.

Im sorry your right diddnt relize I was doing that not a good thing on my part but thanks for bringing that to my attention
