I got SCAMMED! Goodbye $70!! Does anybody (including moderaters) know anything about a company called “EUCLID NETWORKS” (LOCATION: BASSETERRE, ST-KITTS, WEST INDIES)? I recently attempted to download "Limewire". I "googled" it and it gave me a list of sites to dowload it from, including one site in the "Sponsored Links" section (highlighted at the top of the first page) that eventually scammed me. Heres the link: http://www.download-it-free.com/limewire/ The site was kitted out with "Limewire" colours and logo's, and the download section even stated that I would be downloading "LimeWire 5.5" (Please note the capital "W"). I proceeded to the checkout to finalise the order by credit card and discoved that the bill had come to $51.29USD ($67.37AUD). This price included, quote: "Lifetime Full & Unlimited Access for a total of 23.46 $ USD Pro Version for a total of 12.95 $ USD NetSpyProtector Option - Protect yourself from malware for a total of 14.88 $ USD" I was originally under the impression that the download was free ("download-it-free"), but as I was keen to get this thing up and running, went ahead with the transaction thinking to myself that it was a small price to pay for unlimited downloads. I was then directed, from a link that was sent to my email inbox, to a site by the name of the "Music Members Area"....No sign of the "Limewire" logo here. Surprise, Surprise! I completed the download and was surprised and angered to see that the software I had just bought was not "Limewire" at all...it was in fact a piece of software called "360 Share Pro"...Not what I paid for!!! Not only was it not what I paid for, but even with Java uptes, it dosen't even launch! I've not only paid $70AUD for a piece of software that I was delibrately (mis) led to believe was "Limewire", but that dosen't even work!!! How does a company of your status, let companies such as this ruin your credibility and get away with deliberately false or misleading advertising (Taking into account the small print and smallest differences in spelling of product name) of your products ?? Am I the only one, or has this happened to other people aswell?? What can I do about getting this company shut down?? Or more to the point, what can Gnutella do to get them shut down?? Anything?? Or are they "legally" (due to small technicalities) allowed to trade like this? I realise I've been scammed and there is probably little to no chance of getting my money back (no contact information or links on the site and company not listed in the West Indies business directory) but is there any other way, apart from this site and "Consumer Affairs Australia", that I can lodge a complaint on this operation/scam? Any advice, comments, or similar stories would be great. Cheers, Dallas (Melbourne, Australia) |
Sorry to hear you've been scammed. Have a look through these 2 threads, the first one's an epic but it's got heaps of info & (I think) a list of known scam sites http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=28751 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=44499 The second one has info about getting your money back, lots of good advice from people who've done it. It's worth reading, you never know... might help you. Make sure to let your bank/CC company know straight away, they might be able to cancel your transaction. Most have a department that deals with fraud/scams. LimeWire's open source, so anyone can get hold of the source code. Unfortunately this includes scammers! If the crap version you have doesn't work, get rid of it. I'd advise you to get rid of it anyway... you never know what malware might have been included. If you want to download LW basic (free), get it from the official site here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml That way, you'll get a clean version! :) |
This one got a phonenumber ;) Looks like the same deal as well Do some checking before calling since they will no doubt try to claim that they are legit. But do it fast or they will no doubt go with the timelimit http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=59117 |
Hey guys, Thanks for the help and the links. I called my the complaints department for my credit card provider but they said they cant do anything about reversing internet based transactions. However...the lady that i spoke to quoted me what she thought was a billing code from the transaction details, which shortly after, was advised by her supervisor that it wasn't a code, but was actually a phone number. I ended up getting "360 Share Pro" to work thanks to a download of the current version of Java, however I still believe I was scammed (false advertising which led me to believe I was purchasing Limewire...and for a much higher price might I add) so I'm still going to try and get my money back. I'm also going to report the company to any organisations that I can get a hold of in an attempt to shut them down (or at least ammend thier blatantly misleading advertising methods), in a bid to prevent how ever many thousands of other people like myself from being scammed. I suggest anyone else who's been "duped" like myself to do the same...Power in numbers!!!! The phone number is as follows (and don't quote me on this. I'm not 100% sure): (0011) : Or whatever the number is to get out of your country. Followed by: 888-846-9590 (I've just seperated it so its easier to read) ...This should get you through to the company in question (Euclid Networks, Bassettere, St-Kitts, West Indies) Although they'll probably change it if they read this post. Cheers, D.C. |
What do you guys make of this? Any conspiracy theories, or is this extract of text exactly what it looks like (to me)? I'll fill you in with a few details before you read it. I went to run this program they call 360 Share "Pro" (the one they pass off as Limewire at download-it-free.com. See previous posts) and it said it couldn't load because of an internal error. I clicked the review button to see what this problem was and this is the first paragraph of text that came up in the "error message". Now if thier going to shut the program down because I'm giving my honest opinion of it (or more importantly, on them) in this forum then I definately want to get my money back. What ever happened to freedom of speech?? ...They've obviously developed a program to scan threads like this one....why would they go to the lengths of doing that if they were doing nothing wrong, and had nothing to hide?....Say no more! Anyway, heres the extract from the error message. Make of it what you will...but it dosent take a genius to figure it out! __________________________________________________ ______________ 360Share Pro version 4.2.6 Pro Java version 1.5.0_06 from Sun Microsystems Inc. Try removing your current version of Java & reinstall the JRE using the offline installer here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp That's a Java error... I don't think there's anything suspicious about it:D |
Euclid Networks is connected to or is the same as Euclid Networks Inc, which may be connected to Euclid Inc, this being a company begun by Andra Delip Kumar, CEO of Euclid India Ltd. although it is reported that Rao Cherukuri is the founder and chairman of Euclid Networks. Then there is also, or was, Euclid Network Solutions Inc. Read about the company at http://www.rediff.com/computer/1999/ oct/16euclid.htm . A news report from Bangalore some years ago reported that “network service provider Euclid India Ltd. is to merge with the US-based Euclid Network Solutions. This will make the Indian company a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US firm. Clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board is awaited” A common theme of sites run by Euclid Networks is the lack of any contact details until money has changed hands. It would appear to be connected with: NetFreeMovies.com TV-All-Free.com NetFreeGames.com NetGamesNow.com AccessMp3Music.com (which describes itself as “the largest p2p network”) FreeAccessMp3.com iMusicAccess.com iMusicNow.com Mp3-All-Free.com Mp3JustFree.com Mp3RealMusic.com MusicJustFree.com NetFreeMp3.com Download-it-free.com A company called YottaCash.com is a wholly-owned and operated arm of Euclid Networks. All these companies seem to have the same theme but you have to read the small print - they provide (or tell you how to get) other organisation’s programs, including Limewire, and charge you for the privilege. The small print on ‘Movies-All-Free” for example has a clause “The software is free. You are paying for the online help and support and the online tutorials for the lifetime of the membership”(the 'lifetime' time of the membership is not given). The trouble is that when you are looking for Limewire for the first time and you come across one of these sites you don’t know its not the right site; by the time you do you have paid your money. There is also a similar site, Mp3MusicDownload, where the footer reads “Legal Advise about using P2P networks and Disclaimer, Billing by SOP R&M, St-Kitts, BasseTerre, 1823 Bay Road.”. Note the misspelling of the word “Advice” and the fact that they are from the same street as Euclid Networks. Another company using the same address, 1823 Bay Road, Basseterre is Nextdaysoma.com, an on-line drug company. The address may be a PO Box - the billing for Nextdaysoma.com goes to Manama International Limited, C18 The Sands, PO Box 1823 Bay Road & George Street, Basseterre St. Kitts. The telephone number 1- 888-846-9590 at the start of this thread is the same number as that used by a company called Downloadinghome.com, a site owned by Mp3Networks, St Kitts. Accessing site www.euclidnet.com/company/board.html results in “Page Cannot Be Displayed”. |
Well TezL The info that you have found says it all, this company and it's multitude of offspings are dedicated to one thing and one thing only, ripping off gullible people. Mind you, the ones that get ripped off tend to have a "go go, do or die" attitude rather than a "look before you leap" one. Still, for anyone who like to "look before they leap" check this old saying out: Quote:

Thanks! :xeri_ok1ani: Brief note to thank all the posters in this thread: I found this thread via a Google search for "netgamesnow complaint", since I was thinking of downloading from NetGamesNow. I've found this precautionary "caveat emptor" search procedure useful, to say the least. NetGamesNow seemed bogus to me for one reason - you can't browse or search their selection UNTIL YOU PAY. Even if they were on the level, I'd never deal with them because nearly every vendor on the web allows you to shop before ordering (or paying). The info in this thread convinced me "better safe than sorry", so I'm not dealing with them. I know this isn't helpful technically, and if it's inappropriate, feel free to delete it, but I wanted you to know your time and efforts help, and do count for something. Thanks again! |
People not sharing Hello, I just recently started using this site and i'm very pleased with the selection of music here so much so that I would like to go pro just out of appreciation for Lime Wire. But there is one thing that really gets me very angry and that is when you see people uploading from your computer who are not sharing their music, it angers me because that is how the site works by everyone sharing what they have so how can anyone want to take but not give. I would like to see the site changed so everyone has to share there should not be a choice of not sharing especially if you haven't went pro. |
Whackylilstar I understand the point you are trying to make and I totally agree with you, no one should be allowed to take without sharing but you have some fundamental misunderstandings in your assessment. First, you said: Quote:
Secondly, you also said: Quote:

Now you run into the ethical problem of should you try and take control of user's PCs through planting some sort or Trojan, in LW, that forces people to share. Well, if this is what you want I would have to vehemently disagree with you, even though I am a sharer and a Pro user if I found out that my copy of LW was sharing stuff without my permission I would stop using it. And I believe that anyone concerned about their PC security would stop using LW also. So junior member Whackylilstar, although I initially agree with your idea in practice I would stop using LW and move onto something that would not intentionally compromise my PCs (and by default my) security. Hi, UK Bob, I understand ur concern about security issues all net users should be. All i'm suggesting is, if Lime Wire offers the download software for free and u accept it that everyone must share the Lime Wire Folder. I'm not talking about anyone taking control of our pc's only that somehow it be written in the code of the Lime Wire software download that the Lime Wire folder be shared. And u would have to agree to sharing the folder or choose not to download the Lime Wire software, and maybe if u bought pro this could be one of the added features that u could choose not to share ur files, but it's ridiculous to choose not to share ur files and be on the site uploading from others. |
It's not always a concious choice not to share files! Some people aren't sharing because they're firewalled & this effectively stops most or all other people downloading from them. I'm sure that a lot of people aren't even aware of what the firewall icon means, let alone that others can't download from them;) In some cases too, the firewall comes from a school, apartment complex etc & so the user's powerless to do anything about it...should these people not be allowed to download??? It's not always as black & white as it seems:D |
If ur not sharing ur only taking, and it's still not fair:nono: |
I think you have to be a bit less simplistic in your approach. Even those people who choose not to share may be doing that because they're nervous about using p2p...how many people do you think are just plain scared of being prosecuted? Are you going to tell them that they have nothing to worry about? Out of all those people, there are those who will start to share files...once they're familiar with whatever cilent they're using & feel a bit more comfortable with the whole concept of p2p. If they were told from day one that they have to share, or they're not allowed to use the client...they'd run a mile & I wouldn't blame them. That would be the network's loss. There are always going to be freeloaders...fact of life. But to be so militant about forcing people to share would only harm the client & p2p in general. |
just food for thought..... as mentioned above, theres always the issue of the ones which are powerless to reconfigure firewalls etc.... but never the less... have a read and see what you think. im sure many of you have used azerus ( spelt right? ) and demonoid.com to download torrents... well demonoid have a little system for ratio which changes on how much you download and share... the more you download without sharing, the lower your ratio depends.. surely using a script to limit their download speed according to their ratio would be doable? you could store ratio info on a remote server or on the client pc, // for C++ programmers // a file is loaded which store the ratio when GUI loads TStringList *ratiofile = new TStringList(); ratiofile->LoadFromFile(encryptedfile.data); Edit1->Text=ratiofile->Strings[0]; //turn the value in to an Integer int Dratio =ratiofile->Strings[1]; //file download complete or done by mb if (*file complete or mb d/l*) { Dratio++ } //file upload complete or done by mb if (*file complete or mb d/l*) { Dratio-- } // then dependant of value GT or LT set speed if (Dratio < 10) { *allow full bandwidth } if (Dratio > 10) { * slightly limit bandwidth } if (Dratio > 20) { *limit bandwidth more } etc etc //then all whats left is to save ratio when closed or periodically ofstream saveratio(encryptedfile.data); saveratio<<Dratio<<endl; saveratio.close(); :Smilywais: |
You don't have to share music to be sharing. Quote:
You can set limewire up to only share with people that share a certain amount of files tho, under tools > options.. and i don't remember from there, but it's there. |
please help me get RID OF THIS CRAP!!!! ok..well...i just downloaded that crap of a site "musicjustfree" and it doesnt tell how to get rid of your account with them..can someone please just tell me how to cancel my membership or contact these people!?!? I would REALLY appreciate it!! A step-by-step walk through, or WHATEVER is great!! As long as i can cancel my membership..please and thank-you!! If anyone can help me, please send your help to my email address, because i need this immediantly!!! _______________________________________ Edited to comply with the House Rules. When dealing with these scamsites it's best to do it through your bank. Cancel your creditcard and get a new one just to be on the safe side. Also make a complaint against them. You might even get a refund. Try to get contact info for the site and complain there as well demanding a refund. Other than that your post is really vague. You don't say actually what happened so any more advice if hard to give. The above is just what you probably should do. |
thanks there really wasn't much for me to explain, although i know it would probably be much more helpful, but all that happend was i downloaded that site, and i clicked on it, nothing happend. i click a thousand times, STILL nothing..so then i figured i might as well cancel my membership, only the problem is, i CANT..but that you for the information given. I really wasn't expecting such a quick reply. The only reason i downloaded that crapass site was because i got an ipod and need a download site..does anybody know a good ipod site??? |
You could try the real Limewire site (Basic version is free) www.limewire.com Almost all these programs are free Also this might help some more if you want your money back: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=44499 Log in to the site that scammed you and try to find contact details. Then demand a refund from them. |
wow thank-you SOOOO much!! I did what you said and everything is fixed!! I don't know what i would have done without you!!! I can't say thank-you enough!!! Lots of love and thanks!! |
Good to hear. Just see if the refund is really refunded before you get so joyfull. If not then be vigilant about it. Complain to the FBI etc. These sites promise absolutely free downloads of copyright material when there is no such thing, except for those countries who have cooler laws (like mine) |
Thanks, but why do you do this?? yea. must be nice to have "not so strict" laws...not like HERE..I think it's really stupid how people come up with these retarded sites that just screw you over..you have to be pretty evil and have NO LIFE AT ALL!!! But oh well. What's done is done i suppose. So now that I know this fag company I will NEVER AGAIN try to get ANYTHING from their crapass sites!! What made all you guys come on here and help people with problems with these companies? (or this one imparticular). Couldn't that cause problems within the site..?Forinstance, them shuting this site down or anything like that? |
since they are the ones doing illegal advertising, they don't have the right to close anyone down. This here is just a userbased filesharing community that you stumbled over. |
oh!! that's cool. i understand now. I'll be glad when someone shuts them down |
