Why AVI..... WHY?!?!? :^p

Been away from P2P for sometime until recently. Was quite amped to be pulling down a bunch of anime videos and was enjoying them immensely. Suddenly (this am) ALL of the videos will not launch in Realplayer or any similar program. These files now crash the app or just play the audio(RP, Media Player and so on).

any thoughts for a reborn newbie such as myself?

If those files are not faked files (downloaded from search results with hundreds of hosts), then it sounds like a codecs problem....
You could try to play them with the free VLC player, which has built-in codecs and can play almost all files without problem. You can download it here:

Let me start by saying thanks for the suggestion! VLC does indeed play the AVIs in question. So that is huge!!! It just did not make sense that all of the AVIs I was downloading worked for weeks in many different apps(realplayer etc.) and then stopped working completely overnight.

Makes one suspicious/nervous about the health of said computer. Should I find the time maybe I will find the root cause, but then again..............

Anyway, thanks for the tip.

My suggestion would be to check on any trojan, virus and/or maleware. It is also possible that you got a Real Player update which messed up your player config. But that's just guessing from me.
To check your system I reckon several programs which are free and/or trial versions, which can be used even after the trial limit has passed (inclusive regular updates, which will still be possible):
Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE)

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/(free)

http://www.grisoft.com (free and reliable AVG program)

http://www.ewido.net (trial, which can be used after the end of the trial with regular updates)
