DVD Rewriter

My DVD Rewriter is a PHILIPS SPD2400L1.
I shall try Google now, and I will let you know how I got on.

Burning Software

Tonson2000uk

I am inclined to agree with LOTR and his advice, however I would say one thing first, which LOTR as already mentioned. Make sure that your burning software can burn DVDs, I feel that you are trying to burn DVDs using software manufactured to burn CDs only. Hence, the error you are getting, your software is looking for a CD burner but, of course, you have a new DVD burner.

I would like to vary LOTRs advice just a little, before you try updating the firmware of your DVD player, which might be a challenge for a novice, try updating your burning software first.

As LOTR said, if you have Nero 5 then upgrade it to version 6.0 or 7.0 as these versions can recognise and burn DVDs whereas version 5.0 cannot.

I cannot advice on Ashampoo as I have never used it and I believe that WMP uses a Nero 5.0 plug-in to burn CDs so it is unlikely to burn DVDs, unless an updated plug-in is available.

DVD Burner

It is definately a DVD Rewriter. It also says DVD R/RW on the front of the device. I always buy my stuff when I visit England, just incase I get the wrong thing! I have also been on Google, looking for a update/download, but come to dozens of Forums.
Am I doing something wrong, or am I just plain thick?

What brand of R & RW disks are you using? Are they dvd- or dvd+? Which version of Nero do you have? Open Nero & look at the startup screen & it should say which version it is. If you miss it, you can go to the menu bar & choose help ... about nero. As said, nero 5 can't burn dvd's & won't recognise the dvd device as a dvd burner. Nero support is here http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Support.html oh & nero 6 support here http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Tech_Support.html

DVD Burner

Yes, it is Nero 6 that I have. The DVDs I`m using are DVD+R (EMTEC), DVD-RW (VERBATIM) and (TEVION) 4.7. I think these are just the names of the German manufactuers. I shall now try the Nero support link, which you have provided.
Thanks.
Tony.

Verbatim are certainly good! Yes it looks like a Nero 6 update is needed so it gives full recognition to your model of burner.
