Chance of Virus? Hi, I am thinking about getting Limewire but I am scared of getting a virus because I use my brother's PC and he would kill me if I got one:eek: . I only plan on d/ling .mp3 music files. I have Nortan Internet Security, so is there any way I can get a virus just from d/ling music files. Also, I know what size the files should be so I won't download rediculously sized files. Thanks |
If only downloading music (meaning mp3 etc. Would stay away from wma files though) there is very little chance of catching a virus or other malware. Don't download zip or rar files to be on the safe side. Also scan what you download with your antivirus Here are some other tips on how to find what you want How to find music :) |
Shadow Hawk Sleepless is fully correct in his advice, I would only like to add one thing and that is make sure that your virus definitions are up to date, by actioning Liveupdate before you download anything, that way you will ensure that your brother's PC is better protected. Cool, thanks alot guys. And also, one quick question: is it possible to scan files before you download them? |
No, but as long as you don't open them before scanning them, there should be no problem |
Oh, so I can only get a virus when I open the file? |
I sure hope so  If you can by just downloading a file then it's news to me |
Thanks for your help. Just one last question, how do you scan the file before you open it, using Norton? |
Don't use it myself but with most scanners you just rightclick on the file and choose scan with Norton...(You can also scan the whole folder) This has to be done outside of Limewire default location of your shared folder is: C:\Documents and Settings\**Your Username**\Shared You can also go to library in limewire and click a file (once!!!) two times will open it. And then press explore |
Shadow Hawk Sorry I did not see your query last night because I had some problems with my home PC, however the probs are now solved. When I get home tonight I will post a screen print here that will show you how to scan single files with Norton AV. Later. UK Bob |
