vlc media player vs. windows media player or other...

Hi, it's the newbie again. :o

Is window's media player the worst. What are the comparisons to vlc and others? My windows media player (which I updated to player 11) still drives me

Any suggestions? The most activity my media player gets is making play lists and burning cds. I haven't graduated to movies yet:rolleyes:
Thanks

Everyone has their favourites. I don't like WMP but heaps of people love it;)
I use iTunes & VLC. If you use the forum search, you might be able to find a few threads & some more opinions!

:) thanks

One more ?
Is it okay to have more than one active media player on my pc, (i am sort of computer tech challanged:( )

I was afraid to unistall the real player which I do not use

There's a player called MPlayer which can play real files. IT's very similar to VLC (open source.) Search the forums for MPlayer & you'll find the address to it.

People use WMP because it's one of the programs that comes with windows so it's all some people know. But in reality it's not really such a great player. One thing that annoys me about it (other than not having in-built codecs) is it connect to the net everytime you open it.

Yeh that bugs me too. What the heck is a codec!!!! I am in computer Pre-K.

CODEC (click link) or this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codec is a mini program that converts a file from one format to be readible by the player. CODECs list and alternate players for Movies Both VLC & MPlayer tend to have internal codecs built inside them.

Computer Illiterate Aussie ...

Hi there knowledgeable people, I have downloaded VLC Media Player but cannot get it to work. I have added some downloaded movie fils to a playlist but for some reason it will not play them. I'm probably just making a simple (& stupid ) error but I would appreciate some advice.

Thanks,

Aussie

What playlist? The playlist within LW is only intended for music. That's probably why it won't play them.
If you want to open them with VLC, then select them & press Launch button. ;)

If you just try to play a single video, does it work? I've never made a playlist in VLC... always just played movies one at a time.
If single files play ok, have a look at the Videolan forum. You'll probably be able to find an answer over there.

Or somebody else here might have more clues?
:)

Or maybe I've just misread the question completely!!!

The playlist in VLC on my mac works fine.

(hehehe I keep beating birdy to post by seconds! :D) :tease:

I currently have Real Player as my Primary (or whatever the term is) video player. I have unticked the box in LW so that playback of video files does not defaut to LW.

I selected a movie right clicked & launched only for nothing to happen ....
any thoughts (no bad ones ones please like ... Stupid Bloody Aussies :rolleyes_2: )

Cheers.

Try launching the file from outside of LW. Go to your LW library, click on Saved Files then Explore. Your saved folder will open for you, try launching from there. Are you getting any error messages from RP?
If it doesn't launch with RP, right click on the file > open with & choose VLC. There shouldn't be any codecs issues with VLC, if it won't play it then there's probably something wrong with the file.

What stupid bloody Aussies... I thought we were all brilliant?:D
