Moving Overseas

I am a Limewire user in New Zealand and connect through my NZ broadband connection. I am moving to the uk in 4 weeks. Will I still be able to use limewire through my new internet connection in the uk, or will I have to re-buy or re-register the program??? Any advice or help would be gratefully recieved.
Cheers

Limewire is international. Your limewire will work in the UK too. The only thing you have to worry about is which ISP to choose when you move there. i.e. find one that doesn't use traffic shaping or block Limewire

If there is one Please tell me, Ive been looking for one for 6 months,
Here's a letter I got from Tiscali.

Dear Customer,

This email contains important information regarding your broadband account.

Your broadband Internet usage has been highlighted as exceptionally high
during peak periods and is affecting the service that we provide to other
customers.

All of our users have the right to an acceptable quality of service, and
to ensure this Tiscali employs a Fair Use Policy
(http://www.tiscali.co.uk/fup). This gives Tiscali
the right to manage customers whose usage adversely affects our network
and the service of other customers. This is referred to in clause 8.4 of
the Terms and Conditions of our Broadband service (note clauses 5.9 in
the old Terms and Conditions if you registered before 2005) and
detailed in our Fair Use Policy (http://www.tiscali.co.uk/fup).

You may upload and download as you wish outside the peak hours;
however we ask that you are considerate when using the internet
during the peak period. Peak hours are from 6pm to 11pm Monday to
Sunday. To avoid any further heavy use warnings
we strongly recommend you adhere to the following guidelines:

o) Do not download large files during the peak periods

o) Do not use Peer-to-Peer file sharing software during peak
periods (e.g. Kazaa, BitTorrent)

o) Try and keep internet use to email and web browsing during these times.

If you do not reduce your usage during these peak times we
will manage your usage. This means that you will share
bandwidth with other heavy users during peak times instead of
sharing bandwidth with normal users. Your service will continue
to be unlimited, but by sharing bandwidth with other heavy users
you are likely to experience slower speeds during peak times.

If you have a query regarding this letter then you can
email broadbandservices@uk.tiscali.com

Well!... Bare this in mind when chooseing, Read the small print in any contract
Of any ISP provider Good Luck Wonders.

That is actually not so bad. 6pm to 11pm is only 5 hours out of 24

Many users have a lot worse terms and conditions

I don't live in the UK myself so don't know which service is the best there, but I will pass this on to someone who does later today :)

I've been using ukonline for the pass 6 months and have downloaded quite a lot (as I had to reformat my hard disk and didnt save any personal files!)
They've been quite good and so far, there is no download or time limit, the price at the moment is resonable too.
If you go for an ISP, go for one which offers an umlimited download rather than one which limits your download to say 2GB per month.

PussInBoots September 11th, 2006 11:13 AM

My download times are always during the peak hours too ( I have something called work!)

Sleepless September 11th, 2006 11:23 AM

I just adapt and download mostly during the night :D

My deal is unlimited flatrate from 0-8am and 6 GB free other hours, but that's not in the UK. Uploads are unlimited though :)

Unlimited would cost me 110£ a month here and my bankaccount can't handle that

BTW passed the link to this post on so there might come some more suggestions at a later time

Wonders and mickjapa108

I moved from Virgin, when they started to use anti-P2P techniques, to Bulldog, who do not curb your P2P usage.

I also understand that NTL does not use anti-P2P measures also.

But, as with anything, always check first.

If you wish to keep your incompletes & continue them in UK, then save the "entire" incomplete folder onto a CD/DVD-RW. Then after you install LW in the UK, close LW. Then replace the new incomplete folder with the one you saved onto disk (must ONLY be done whilst LW is closed!!!) Then re-open LW. ;) :)

Ntl is fine, but it is a cable tv provider - this means you get generally good broadband (all ISP have their problems) but have to use their other services. They are currently upgrading their packages so best to visit the home page for info:
http://www.ntl.com/
They have recently merges with telewest (another cable operator) and the group has bought virgin mobile. You will have to check if they cover the area you are moving to.
They advertise as 'unlimited' and it basically is, although there is a small part in the contract which allows them to curb your usage (but I've never heard of this happening, and would expect it only to happen for very high usage), and they do not block P2P usage. Oh and BTW in the UK I am pretty sure any authortity needs a UK Court order to get your details from any ISP.
Here is a useful site to check what Broadband is available in the area you are moving to:

http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/

There is a pop-up so best use Firefox, you will need to know the postal code for the address you are moving to.

Hope that helps :)

You should check the ISP's which are available in your area. Bulldog was recommended to me also but I found that they didnt service the area where I lived.

I've downloaded a large amount over the last couple of months and have had no complaints from the ISP

Before you sign on with any ISP, always check their policy on downloading (I found unlimited means different things to different servers) especially the times!

Bulldog had recently announced that it was not taking on anymore domestic customers while it was in negotiations to sell itself, now Bulldog is owned by Pipex and is signing up new customers again.

Here is the announcement:
Quote:

Pipex Communications plc:
Acquisition of Bulldog’s broadband customer base

Pipex Communications plc (PXC), (“Pipex”) a major provider of integrated telecommunications and internet solutions including broadband, voice, domain name registrations and hosting, announces the acquisition from Cable & Wireless of Bulldog’s residential and small business broadband customer base, website (www.bulldogbroadband.com), rights to the Bulldog brand and domain names, for a consideration of £12m in cash.
Also, use the following URL and enter your post code in the required field, this will tell you if your area is covered by the Bulldog network.

https://secure.bulldogbroadband.com/...archtype=telno

Now the question, am I happy with Bulldog? Well, they are cheap and they do not curb P2P traffic, however this might change under Pipex, but for now they are OK. There is plenty of room for improvement, for example, they were late in getting me switched over from BT to their network (leaving me without phone or internet connection for 2 – 3 weeks) and there was a fault which stopped friends and relatives calling me when the switch over was completed. Nevertheless, I understand that these faults were down to dirty tricks by BT engineers, i.e. deliberately creating faults so that Bulldog would be blamed for them.

I still have one or two issues to be sorted out but nothing that would make me start looking for another ISP at the moment.

Anyway, good luck in choosing your new ISP.

Hi, Ukbobboy and all
Sorry im late posting, did'nt see replys
I do not have, or want Television and Im happy with my phone Conection BT
its not the ch-eapest but its Reliable. Most all of the ch-eap ISP's in my area
do all in one Phone/Tele/Internet bundels. No ch-eap Unlimited for just Internet. As far as NTL goes, If you have a large bank account that never goes overdrawn its ok, But if your late by one day they disconect you, then charge for re,con, or bank will hit you for red charges, you know what I mean
a check submited late and you dont have what you thought in the bank so
NTL cut you off. A few friends have said about this.
I dont care much about D/L speed, My job if you like is distributing Songs,Pic's
Books,Videos ect.. Hare Krishna files 3000 at any one time, so I would just like
more than 30 KBs up for no more than £30,monthly Yer I could run to £30 if I cut the dog & budgie's allouance.
Bulldog! I did fill in all info Post Code inc.. It returnd Invalid Address,Ive lived
there for 15 years. I would like to try Bulldog though. Im not comsavy so navigating,n troublshooting bewilder me.
I better check your links they may have sorted my prob, later, n thanks UK Bob
