CODEC is the long explanation. :D

They are mini programs that convert a particular format so a player can open & play it. VLC will open both audio & video files happily because it has in-built codecs. Try it out: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)

Any one. I downloaded the one from france yet I live over the opposite side of the world. :D Yes it's safe ... no it doesn't have spyware, adware or anything suspicious like that. We wouldn't recommend it otherwise. ;) It's predominantly a video player, but also does a fine job at playing audio & is very good at audio or video streaming. It can play dvd's & vcd's also, etc.

Some scam sites offer LimeWire (Basic which is really free) & charge you extra for video codecs, which you can get for free anyway.

There's only one place to get LimeWire & that's from the "Official" site. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml They don't advertise getting illegal material from the net. In fact, they don't advertise.
