Help - suddenly no search results at all! Whenever I try to search for files all Limewire does is show the search tab and shows the search meter at the top but it never gives me any results. Anyone know whats up? |
Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Which ISP (internet service provider) do you use? |
yes...what the hell? charter cable is my ISP |
The reason I was asking is because some isp's filter, block or shape p2p programs. Lack of search results in one of the symptoms. Try an experiment, try downloading a magnet link here & tell us what happens: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml If you see the brick wall then it means you have a firewall problem. It may either be due to your software firewall (not configured to allow LW access) or it may be a modem/router with an internal NAT firewall. This may be your problem. What brand & model of modem/router do you have? What software firewalls do you have? |
I have a belkin F5D7230-4. I dont know of any software firewalls. I have been using Limewire for sometime now and it worked like a charm. The problem I described above started pretty much out of the blue. One day I was able to download files and then all of a sudden I wasnt able to. I am not aware of any changes I made that would cause this. I have tried unistalling Limewroe and reinstalling it many times with no results. Im stumped! |
Whenever I click on a link in the http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml it downloads in Limewire, but I stil cant search. |
Fixing the firewall situation may or may not fix your problem, but it's best if you do configure your system to allow LW full access. For your device, I'm not sure its UPnP abilities are that good. Previous feedback is that it doesn't work very well. Thus I'd recommend port forwarding if you're willing. Most important step is the very 1st step which is setting up a static ip. Port Forwarding for the Belkin F5D5230-4 Make sure your software firewall is configured for LW. I'm guessing you're running Windows XP SP2. So, (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) "If" you're running XP SP2, then get an SP2 patch: MS & 3rd party patches lvlord is probably the best. |
