Does anyone know of a good * free * WMA file editor ? I convert my mp3's to WMA files because my CD player can't play mp3's. Does anyone know of a good * free * WMA file editor ? It really has to be free as I am on a fixed pension. |
You could look here for one: http://www.nonags.com/ This site offeres a lot of save freeware. :Smilywais: |
Maybe I should have been a wee bit more specific. I'm looking for a program that will convert my mp3's to WMA files -and nothing else. I'm looking for the name of a program, and not the repository of thousands of files that may or may not do what I want to do. I've done a Google and a Yahoo search, I've checked every freeware site I know of. Nada. I've discovered hundreds of programs that will do except dance with you. Nonags.com doesn't seem to have a program I'm looking for, and lord knows I've looked. I need the name of the program - and not simply the name of the repository. Thanks for trying foolofthehill. |
Try this one. Have no idea if or how it works though http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_6_226_17383.html |
I was just having a sticky at the link you provided Sleepless, and I think Tom has already used this one and rated it excellent, so not sure why he's asking for another ??? User Reviews Rate/Review This Program (32 Total Ratings) 4.59 (out of 5) Reviewer: -Tom Review Date: 2006-09-09 "The Best !" This is the best audio converter I've used. Fast, easy and fool proof. A must have ! |
Can your CD player play audio CD's? lol :D Why not burn the mp3's as audio cd's. ... ok ok space reasons ... most dvd players nowadays will play mp3's, & the newer ones mp4/m4a. But I guess you have a portable CD player. |
hmm maybe he forgot, just like the firewall thread he started and then nothing ?? |
That was me who rated the file type converter. And thats all the little beastie does. It does a crackerjack job ! I need an editor that let me cut the the excess sound at the end or the beginning of a sound file. Some of the files have something approximating music after the 2 second gap. Just a little something to help me clean up my massive ( I think it is ) collection. Sorry for the confusion...I've had a very rough two weeks. I just had to bury my mother-in-law. Alzheimers. |
Ahaa. Now that different, and I'm sorry to hear that your Mother-In-Law died. I have a grandmother that has Alzheimers. She has no idea who I am anymore. I don't know of any that can cut wma files but if you cut them before converting to wma then I know one (really good one as well). It might work on a .wma as well, but copy the file first before trying it just incase it ruins the file. http://home.hccnet.nl/p.luijer/ |
Now that's a great tool, when you put me onto that MP3 cutter Sleepless, I haven't looked back....I make all my ring tones with it....I'm sure at the end of the editing you can export it as a WMA file, I know there's 3 options to choose from... Tom, sorry to hear about your Mother In Law.... |
I really want to thank everyone here for their kind suggestions. Pardon the pun but mp3cutter didn't quite cut the mustard. I'll convert my WMA files back to mp3's and do the cutting in mp3 format. I use an app called PolderBits. Its a editor from Holland that works on helping you create an mp3 file. It has noise filters, an equalizer (I think its a 10 band equalizer) and allows you to record record and tapes. Its free for 14 days(its fully functional) and well worth the small investment. Considering some the great suggestions does anybody think a child board in this forum should be created for software suggestions ? Thanks again |
While I don't mind the idea, I have a feeling that the people that own this forum would prefer that it stays on the subject of Gnutella and Filesharing. There are other really good sites that deal with media editing already. Actually funny, I've been thinking about something similar, though with a different intention. A place where Mods, VMs and Admins. could post about the programs they're using. I am quite sure that there are many people who would actually like to know what people like you (Sleepless) and I and all the others (let's call them 'professionals') run on their computers. Of course, not to make any kind of advertisement and also under the current Forum Rules (in regard to ware*z, etc). That idea grew in my brain after the incident of WW and she discovering Ewido through my recommendation..... I'm pretty sure that we who come here on a daily basis to help other people run pretty much the same programs (at least some of them), such as AdAwre, SpyBot, CCleaner, just to name a view. For those people less knowledgable, a thread allowing them to see what we are using could help them in deciding which programs to use..... >>>I hope I won't get bashed now for highjacking this thread with my idea<<< Though just my 5-cent-worth..... :Smilywais: |
Yes and the right place for it would be a forum FAQ. The response I got to that idea was so halfhearted that I decided to scrap the idea. You would be more than welcome to revive it BTW  Then I could shorten this sig down to "Read the Forum FAQ First" and maybe something more fun or well thought of than this one. Oh and sorry Tom if this is going way of subject |
FOTH, I think it's a great idea... When I first came to this forum, I knew absolutley nothing about computers, I was lucky to know how to turn one on lol...Through this place I have gained so much knowledge.... All my computer security has come from the advice of members and most of the tools I use has as well... |
My idea was to have a dedicated thread to which we all could contribute (if we wanted to) that would address specific areas of mp3 files. Sort of like this... MP3 TAGS http://www.mp3tag.de Allows you to re-write mp3 tag, delete information you do want, or add information you do want. Controling the volume of mp3 file mp3gain.sourceforge.net For controlling or altering the gain (volume) of mp3 sound file. [Gnutella and Lime Wire does not endorse these applications in any way. They are mentioned simply as an aid that may be of use to you. We could put apps under specific catagories, and provide the URL to the app. And if anybody thinks they're hijacking the thread...rest easy you're not. |
Gonna have a look at that Mp3Gain thing. I do not normalize when backing up CD's because of the quality loss, so that tool might just come in handy. Have actually been searching for one myself, so Thanks very much |
