what does the "TYPE" mean?

hello and i am new to lime wire and i was just wondering if anyone knows what the types mean at the left side of the screen exp. avi, mp, mov and so forth.. i know what most of them mean but the one that sticks to me is the AVI, i have downloaded some movies and it wont let me see them just hear them.... how would i fix this problem?

iv downloaded the videolan and i guess im just stupid, but i cant seem to figure that out either, i have also uninstalled the realplayer, but it wont come up(videolan) when i click on the movie i want to see.. sorry im a real computer dummy, thanks for your help

this might not be the right place to ask but i cant get a reply anywhere eles..
if im looking for a spacific movie how do i go about on doing so, when i type the movie in it gives me all kinds of different movies. im looking for disney movies.. thanks
