1000 Files or not 1000 files that is the question

Please can someone advise? I have stumbled around the forums(Still a bit lost)
and read a lot about this 1000 file limit(or otherwise) on ''Safe'' sharing !
Where did this mythical no. come from? currently sharing 1500, is this the height of stupidity? Does some counter somewhere 'click' on 1000,secondly if I am sharing 1000 + music files ( Which i'm not) am I more likely to have transgressed? I do understand 'Copyright' but presumably the 'Enabled' filter on LW takes care of most of that doesn't it?
Yours from 'Care home for the terminally bewildered'
PS Am I not as guilty sharing 10 files or 1000, Please Help on this ,if not an impossible question?

This is a very hard question to answer, and it depends where in the world you live and what sort of files you are sharing. If you are sharing all the latest releases in the USA you should be infinitely more careful than if you are sharing 1930s music in Cyprus. The 1000 number ..also 700 are mentioned in the forums. I think 700 was mentioned by someone who was actually caught ... In the USA. It is all hypothetical of course since you and I aggreed not to use Limewire to infringe copyright, but I'm told some people ignore this, and they should, more than anything else, use their common sense. Sharing copyrighted files is illegal in a great many parts of the world, as is speeding in your car, and well you can see where I'm going with the analogy I hope ......

1000 files etc.

Thanks Hobo, for explanation,do you know anymore about the new 'Filter enabled' feature that is supposed to filter out files that owners don't want to share? is this just LW covering own rear ? or is it actually worth enabling ( To cover one's own, as it were/ )If prosecutions are real,is it generally music? latest Movies or both?
Thanks again for answering:Smilywais:

There is a filter to filter out licenced content, which I cannot describe in great detail, as I use an older version of Limewire which does not have it. I cannot use the current version on my ageing Mac:) It is optional to use it, but it is a feature that Limewire has developed, and is in the spirit of the Limewire insistence that Limewire not be used for downloading or sharing copyright material. I hope that my answer makes sense :)
