I don't have a brick wall anymore. And people can direct connect to me. But people can't download from me. My sister tried over the phone with me. It would say needs more sources. She said that. Is there some way to fix this? I hope so. I would really appreciate it. Oh yeah. I am a shared internet computer. With a Us robotics usb router. The model is in the USR8054 series. The one you put in a USB for wireless internet. I have a Cable connection through the ISP Comcast. I tried all the suggestions. And I am open to more. As long as they fix the problem. I tried ethernet when i first was introduced to limewire. And that didn't help. And I can't do it anymore. My cousin took out the thing to plug in the ethernet wire. I will call him and he can put it back in when I see him next time.

I've been trying to download from gf2 for a few hours. Couldn't download a magnet link, straight to need more sources (she saw it as uploading, but at 0%). Direct connect works but downloading from there gives a 'waiting on busy hosts' then 'need more sources'. Re-searching connects the download for a couple of secs, then back to busy host & so on...

gf2's recieved incoming is true. She's had a couple of uploads make it to 1%, but not mine (sob). My attempted downloads show for her as transfer interrupted or upload limit reached. She's done a speed test & been through the optimising thread. She's deleted preferences. Upload slots are not zero, uploads per person are not zero. She can download from me.

Using the router in UPnP mode was tried earlier & didn't work. AFAIK Comcast don't throttle uploads (can't find any evidence anyway). Even tried turning off the McAfee firewall but that made no difference.

I was able direct connect, got the message waiting for busy host...then need more sources

Peerless October 28th, 2006 11:04 PM

I just did a trace on the IP address...the results were very solid and discrete...i.e. no anamolies...but one node halfway between us had a noticeably longer response time, and I wonder if that's the problem..

said node is: AT&T Worldnet Services ATTSVI-12-122-0-0 and is perhaps shaping packets?

Same as Peerless with 'Need more Sources'. My default magnet handler is FrostWire. I deleted it from the list & tried again with LW, same thing.

What's a packet? I can try to reconfigure with a new port number.

garbagefan2 October 29th, 2006 07:23 AM

I changed the port. And the brick wall is still gone. People from bearshare and limewire are trying to download from me and its unsuccessful. I went to sleep when you tried to download. So you can try again if youd like but id doubt it would be successful. People were able to download! Someone made it up to 24%! I don't think it will happen a lot. I think it was just that once it was going to happen.

a packet is a package of data, and from what I know online apps have unique 'shapes' of their packets..this enables ISPs to control what's going through their pipes which is called 'packet shaping' and in a nutshell describes their ability to block p2p traffic...

as noted, the trace I did was very 'good' and 'discrete' (i.e. had no unknown hops being blocked by a firewall or somesuch), BUT..there was the above hop that was slowed down markedly..and that makes me wonder..

what I'd do if I were you is to try out the expired beta that AaronWalkhouse links to in the BearShare has been sabotaged thread and give that a whirl...

garbagefan2 October 29th, 2006 08:42 AM

I've tried that. The same thing happens. I could try again if youd like.
