LimeWire 4.13.0 BETA released!!!

LimeWire 4.13.0 BETA It's been a while but the new beta is now available. It includes Bit Torrent support. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml
* Pro users can download it from their personal pro page.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the changelog will be able to be seen here http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml when it's posted. It's not posted yet at this very moment. It's apparently quite large. :)

" hope it was ok announcing this. "

6_pac October 30th, 2006 11:16 PM

 Thanks for that :). I like that you can search your own library. I'm gonna have to go play with it now .

Can I test it for free
Can I install it without Deleting 4.10.9 pro, as long as I dont run boath at the
same time (Putting them on differant drives)

Lord of the Rings October 31st, 2006 04:01 AM

Of course it's free. You probably can install on a different drive. But ... since this is a new version, not a continuation of the LW 4.12 series, it may corrupt your incompletes when you open 4.10.9 again. In other words 4.10.9 may refuse to load them so although you could resume them, they'd start from zero %.

Sorry mickjapa108 I think I misunderstood your question re: pro. You can use the pro beta if you're still a registered pro user. However if your Pro has expired from the 6 months free updates & support, then you'd either need to use the basic beta or get pro again.

If you've finished your Pro period of support, then set up a new account on the computer to install the beta. And use different locations to save your downloads. That way, your present downloads won't be affected. Only with LW 4.12.6 or later are corrupted incompletes able to be resumed where they were. Otherwise start from zero % which is what would happen if you used the Beta 4.13 & then jumped back to 4.10.6 in the same user account. Unless of course you backed up your download preferences (download.dat & .bak & perhaps main prefs folder also just in case of different behaviour with 4.13. Though from what I've observed, general behaviour seems to be the same as with at least 4.12.6.)

Sam if you're around ... what does this mean (this is new ... impressive) from gnutella network:

Attachment 3039
Attachment 3040

Does that suggest it's fake?!? That's more hosts than were shown by LW in the search results ...
Hosts listed in search was 68

At first view quite unimpressed with the torrent options. Lack of file info, no possibility to disable DHT (at least not that I found), not even info on what tracker the torrent is on.

Does it run only on DHT network or what ?

Lord of the Rings October 31st, 2006 04:11 PM

So that means everybody should buy mac computer with Tiger or Leopard. Otherwise you're missing out on the mac experience which is using a computer at ease without spies behind your back or getting seasonal fluenzes. And without the bugs typicaly expected from windows Windows Error list here (click on list)

You know where to ask!!! http://www.limewire.org/forum/index.php

Didn't want to go there before I had a chance to really test it out. Have only tried torrents that have ratio limits to see if they accepted the client.

Was kinda hoping that someone here might know and would prove me wrong

That's excellent!

edit: Didn't my link in the 1st post work

So that does confirm OSX users with Panther or earlier are totally out of luck.

Sorry I didn't realise you'd replied to it. :D So I presume you've upgraded to Tiger? I thought you said something about Tiger refused to install on your machine.

No the final version of 4.13, not the beta.

stief November 2nd, 2006 07:00 PM

-*-|IRON|MAN|-*-, The release version will be a while yet, and will have a different number. As you can see from the changelog, there's a ton of stuff to test before a general release goes out. Also, there is another very important development waiting to be tested too (the mojito DHT).

So, I'd be surprised to see a general update much before Christmas.

@ Hobo and LOTR: sorry I missed your posts--no notifications received

stief November 2nd, 2006 07:21 PM

well, I'm trying to track down an upload problem (90% of gnutella uploads are beng interrupted; torrent uploads are going through fine).

If anyone knows about configuring firewalls with Mandrake 2007, I'm listening :)

Nice thing about the linux box is that it runs LW 24/7 as an UP with no VMem problem so far: I just need to figure out why the uploads are getting interrupted even though incoming is just fine.

And Hobo--if you want the fun and frustration of testing, you could probably boot your G3 with some Linux distro and use the new java if Apple doesn't bother with supporting the newer java on the older machines.

Guana77664 November 12th, 2006 06:43 PM

I've found out the hard way with beta products (and I'm not just talking LW, I'm talking anything in general) that they don't always work the way you'd like, so I'm gonna wait until the finished product is released. I'd rather not get involved in the LW beta and then discover to my surprise and disgust that I have to get rid of it due to the possibility of it not working correctly. I'd rather go by the old adage, "It's better to be safe than sorry."

6_pac November 12th, 2006 11:49 PM

I know it's mentioned in the Beta forums but thought it worth mentioning here. The 4.13 Beta seems to misrepresent the up-load speed. It showed mine to be about half of what it normally is.

I thought my ISP started shaping my bandwidth. So I called them and complained:mad:. They said they didn't block file sharing programs. I didn't really believe them but accepted their explaination.

So I switched back to ver. 4.12.6 and my speeds returned to normal:o :o.

So if anyone else notices this, you may want to switch back to the current version before you call tech support and blame them for messing with your bandwidth:D :D :).

Guana77664 November 13th, 2006 12:00 AM

See what I mean? The beta version has bugs in it. I figured it would, which is why I'm steering clear of it. I don't trust something that isn't reliable.

6_pac November 13th, 2006 12:21 AM

I wouldn't be too harsh. That's what Betas are for. You have to expect a few growing pains;) :).

Joe the Porsche January 3rd, 2007 08:33 PM

I just got the Beta version and am very impressed, I especially like the fact that you can search your own library. But i have on question...what is the .torrent stuff? What is a .torrent, what does it do... just curious.

Lord of the Rings January 4th, 2007 09:23 AM

A torrent is like a link to a downld file. You can often find links hosted at sites. But the actual files are usually shared by users. Try googling torrent links. Although there's some mentioned here.

New beta version

The new beta is bad. I used for about 3 days and deleted it. Got a bad virus from it. Never had that problem with Limewire.

Sleepless January 13th, 2007 09:36 AM

[Sarcasm] And of course it's all Limewires fault, that you can't see the difference between a real file and a virus. Why didn't I think of that. It's very good that you pointed it out to all of the unsuspecting users, who actually thought the viruses were on the network. After reading this revelation I'll hurry and dump that mean Limewire Beta, that goes around giving everybody viruses.[/Sarcasm]

bald1e53 January 13th, 2007 09:43 AM

I had no problems with limewire before I tried the beta version. I've been using limewire for about 5 years and never had a problem with viruses until I used the beta version

mickjapa108 January 26th, 2007 06:19 AM

Bald.
Did you check the file with Anti Virus Program,BEFORE opening it ?hmm
Sounds like this was one time you forgot.
Peace.

6_pac June 14th, 2007 09:25 AM

Where did you d/load it from? If you paid for and d/led it from the official site, then there isn't any password. You'll need to have admin priviledges to install programs on your account.

There are many scam sites out there. Have a read through these threads:

Membership? - **WARNING ** BEWARE** - Download p2p Clients ONLY Thru Official

get your $$$ BACK!!!(music members)

If you d/led it from somewhere else without paying for it, then your on your own. Hope the file's not infected :nono:.

mickjapa108 June 14th, 2007 09:36 AM

WoT a wind up:cheesy: no password ?:bangh:
Try "LimeWire"

P.S...No I'm only joking, I would'nt open it!! It will probably bite you, or your computer.
Peace.

Arlin001 June 18th, 2007 07:17 AM

Since I can't do it elsewhere

I tried to post in the beta problems sextion, I wasn't allowed:
beta 4.13.6
java 1.6.0_01
I'm "not connected", yet I am still downloading at full speed, only thing is I'm not showing up on the system. No one is uploading and trust me, they always do. I'm enjoying it really, but I also assume that someone needs to know. Please pass it on, as I'm apparently not endowed with the appropriate merits to tell those who need to hear. PEACE! :bangh::bangh::bangh:

mickjapa108 June 18th, 2007 11:07 AM

Arlin001 Hi
The java 6.1.u1 is causing issues so roll back to this one & that should fix it for you OK.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.
Your servant.
Peace.
