How do use the torrents with limewire though???

foolofthehill November 10th, 2006 08:44 AM

There is no official LW release at the moment including a torrent client. But afaik they are working on it and it shouldn't be for long that a beta might be released.....

I've been wondering about the same thing....Can you still use Bitzi with it ??

donp1371 November 10th, 2006 12:08 PM

Could someone please post a sticky on how to use the torrent feature in limewire!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

donp1371 November 10th, 2006 02:56 PM

I think I got it

O.k., there is no proof that I am successful at downloading a torrent yet, because (duh) it is still downloading as I write this. But here is what I did to get where I am now:

1.) I went to http://www.torrentportal.com/

2.) I searched for a file that I wanted to download using the site's searchengine box.

3.) After I found the file I wanted, I clicked on it and I brought to the download page.

4.) I selected to 'download this torrent'; Then the popup box that asks you to run or save came up. I selected to SAVE it to my desktop, where I ran a virus scan on it first.

5.) After the virus scan did not find anything harmful, I dragged and dropped the file in the download section of limewire. Viola', it started downloading.

Now the funny thing to me is I got up to 95 HOST, but only 8kbps of download speed. Sometimes it might shoot up to 20kbps and come back down. Also, is having that many host safe???? Plus I found in the monitor tab, that the file uploads at the same time that it downloads.

I tried this just for the sake of trying something new and gaining the experience from it, but it takes forever to download using this method. If anyone has any tips or tricks to speed this process, please feel me than free to let me know.

I was reading the same link just before I posted my findings. What a cowinkydink!!!!

I just tried to find a way, because my curiousity was getting the best of me. Hey, how is Phex compare to LW??? Can you find files that you can't find on LW or are the dl/ul speeds better than LW?

There isn't much that I can't find with LW, it's just that I hate when a file gives 7,10,25 results, but when you download it it only downloads from 1 or 2 host.

If you are downloading a file as you describe with Limewire, it can help to re search the file and as new sourses are found in the search they often connect. This should in theory happen automatically but often does not...

Thanks for tips, might try Phex later on 2nite or 2morrow, just to give it a looksee. Peace!!!!

I can make a torrent guide but give it a week. Haven't got time to put anything together right now

wondering why November 10th, 2006 09:45 PM

That would be excellent Sleepless as I am totally clueless with torrents...
I have just installed the Beta, so I'm ready to experiment....Cheers...
Thanks Hobo for checking the Bitzi thing out....:rolleyes_2:

I haven't been able to get the any torrent files to work either. I've read some of the threads in the other forum but that just goes over my head:confused:.

A guide would be very helpful, especially if it could be done before the official release comes out.

6_pac November 11th, 2006 10:45 AM

I've tried quite a few using google to find them, but haven't had any luck yet. I think it's a matter of finding the right site. I know they're out there. I just have to find them ;).

isohunt.com is a good torrent site. I get all of my torrents there. But scan with you AV before using the torrent. Some torrents might have malware. But isohunt usually has what I need or want.

I dl'ed a torrent today (around 39,000kb) and scanned it Norton INS 2007. The scan didn't find anything, but after dl'ing thru LW, Norton blocked an adware - Zangosearch something. So I would suggest to scan before dl'ing and after dl'ing. I also dl'ed another file and it was successful. But before I could open the .rar file, I had to follow a link (provided in a text doc.) to obtain the password to open the .rar. file. So being curious I did, but it led to a pay site. I quickly delete everything and moved on. I hope some of our more advanced users can give us tips on how to safetly use this service.

STICKY, STICKY, STICKY, Where are you?????

Usually programs have malware. I would download them. If they work they usually don't work.

Try the internet

and it's coming, but no way I teach anyone to crack passwords here

Oh and BTW unless this is porn the result is more often than not less than perfect. These are porn paysites that try to get more costumers. Have run into a few of those and after cra*cking the pass, have got bad quality

so like OAH said just delete

Sleepless November 11th, 2006 09:14 PM

Just to specify what WW already said

garbagefan2 November 12th, 2006 08:20 AM

Zango sucks. I get their ads on isohunt. I block all ads with adblock plus in firefox. :yahoo:
